The is easily accessible by hiking through the forest from the car below. A very nice path leads up. The forest would be quiet and airy if there were no cars. The is being rebuilt and the views are magnificent. There are few information signs. Worth a visit. Pretty right on the Blue Trail (short detour ~15’) The exhibition inside is pretty interesting and its bilingual. The itself is huge and has panoramic views. Way better and much more quiet than its more famous counterpart nearby. Great destination for a family weekend. It is 30 min walk from the car up to the mountain. The entry was 2000 HUF for 1 adult and 2 children. Drones banned. Great landscape. Make sure you attend to the (free) guided tour! It is a place, that must be visited at least once in a lifetime. A beautiful piece of ancient Hungary. There is something about a in it's ruined state. We have visited many of the Hungarian castles, many of which have been renovated/rebuilt. We enjoy those as well, but seeing remains can be enchanting. We are American citizens so we have no history like that of Europe, so seeing a structure that is hundreds of years old is amazing. Couple that to a spectacular setting in the mountains on a fall/foggy day and this is one of favorites. Be warned! We love to walk and hike, but if you have multiple small children like us, you do not have to at the first parking lot, although Google Maps tells you you must walk the rest of the way. There are two additional parking lots, halfway and full way to the castle. Getting to the is an adventure on its own. You most probably drive here and you may first wonder where you should your car. You can drive all the way to the castle's entrance (there is a car there), it is advisable to search for "Felső várparkoló" on Google Map, there (it is a roadside parking) and hike up to the (about 20 minutes, depending on your fitness). The reason is that the road from Felső várparkoló to the is quite narrow. Compared to Boldogkő Castle, Regec is not as majestic nor as impressive. Nevertheless when you first sighted upon it, you are greeted with an impressive view of the wall. When driving from the direction of Regec, you would see the perched upon a hill. I can imagine what an uphill battle the invading army will feel. The reconstruction is well made. You can see the ruined part and reconstructed part of the co-existing, but other than 2 main sections of the complex, there are more ruins than reconstruction. Kids and families can nevertheless enjoy themselves by getting lost in the imagination and romance of a that can be a nightmare for invaders. The tower section affords a panorama of the hills and Regec as well as a nice bird's eye view of the itself. I would give 5 stars as I love this spot but was very disappointed because the newly rebuilt building with the exhibition was locked. There was a sign saying that there is a tour every half an hour.Nobody was around. We were waiting 20 minutes and gave up on it. Otherwise it is a nice hike up, there is a small gift shop with ice cream/ drinks, the view is spectacular.
