A with interesting technology, which allows lifting a section of few meters on either sides, and then the turns on an axis and allows the channel to open to the passage of vessels. Few minutes before the is blocked for cars, there is a sound of rising and falling siren. It is advisable to take the time and move to the opposite side and then watch the engineering wonder (otherwise you have to wait around 20 minutes)! Very nice experience!! Yes, when you stand with your car in the jam created when it opens - it's a bit annoying. But it is so beautiful to see all the running from left to right, trying to pass the in the time slot... Just love it... Very efficient operation by lady captain. Worth watching it open (every 2 hours). what a nice experience. but i have to say that my car was almost too low for the ramp of that boat-bridge and my car is not tuned or lowered. on the pic's was the temporarily floating bridge. Fascinating to watch , be warned you can be stuck here for an hour sometimes . We have observed the opening at 10am and 2pm for to pass. Stays open for for about 30 minutes. During this time a large amount of cars waiting to cross over builds up. Once the reopens for cars to cross, we still see slow movement even after an hour of the opening. This is what we have observed, it may not be the exact schedule. Poor informations available for the passing through. We waited almost 2 hours, not knowing that the will open during daytime every hour for about ten minutes, except for 13:00 and 15:00, when it will remain closed. The itself and the adjacent canal are really beautiful though. The was supposed to open every full hour and then for 15' for from both directions. We arrived on time before 15:00 to no avail. Had to wait until 17:00. Many were waiting in stiff N/NE wind - coming from Lefkada there is no mooring - means you have to steady the boat under motor continuously. Weird experience, given the season and Friday traffic.
