Very lovely place, with very friendly staff, would reccomend for Hungarian dishes, by mircacle they doesn't oversalt things which is great! Excellent food and service. It would have been 6 stars, but the cat wouldn't let me go. Nettes Restaurant, aufmerksamer Kellner, schmackhafte Pizza! A nice, traditional Hungarian village pub. After hours of walking through the woods I enjoyed a beer and an excellent babgulyas at this place. The proprietor seemed quite friendly. The pathway to the castle begins just next door. Amazing restaurant at the base of the castle trail. The owner speaks English, Serbian, Russian, Italian, and Hungarian. He was extremely helpful and helped us arrange accommodations for the night. The food was delicious and portions were generous. Gulyásleves: really good 8.5 on scale of 1-10 (mind 10 is my single lifetime experience at a place above Michelin stars, so this is pretty superb) Túróslrpény: resembling my grandma’s one and my mother-in-law’s apricot jam. I’m melted. Waiters are friendly, place is quiet, best for a romantic or quiet dining out. The area is magnificent, small village surrounded by mountains and greenery. Absolutely beautiful! They gave Guiness beer which is a must try out in my opinion. Prices are higher compared to an average restaurant, but the meal, drink and the atmosphere makes up for everything. After a long walk through the forest in freezing fog we would have been satisfied with any food, but we needn't have worried - this place rewarded our efforts perfectly. While some similar restaurants do not make an effort when they have a mostly captive clientele of hikers with no choice where to eat, the Vár vendéglő (Castle Inn) does not disappoint. The service was quick and friendly, the surroundings suitably rustic and old-fashioned and the food plentiful and delicious. We had the platter for two persons (shared between three hungry walkers) and couldn't finish, so accepted the offer of a doggy bag. Usually such platters are a breaded schnitzel fest, but this also included an excellent Cigány pecsenye (gypsy cutlet) and Brassói slice. The coffee was apparently kind of "retro" but well presented as such while someone on another table was having a hot chocolate that looked tempting. I went for Dréher bock, at a very reasonable price. Generally I would say excellent value for money and exactly what I want in a country inn. Fantasztikusak az ételek, csak ajánlani tudjuk. Már az első alkalommal nagyon jó benyomást tett ránk a hely: barátságos, családias hangulat, mindig kedves és figyelmes kiszolgálás. Azóta is mindig ugyanolyan színvonalon fogadnak bennünket, ami ritkaság manapság. Az ételek minden alkalommal nagyon finomak, látszik, hogy szívvel-lélekkel főznek. A választék bőséges, mindenki talál magának valamit, akár egy klasszikus magyaros ételt, akár valami különlegesebbet szeretne. Az adagok kiadósak, az ízek háziasak, pont, mint otthon – talán még jobbak is! A hangulat mindig remek, jó ott lenni, beszélgetni, kikapcsolódni. A hely maga is nagyon hangulatos, és a környék szépsége csak rátesz még egy lapáttal az élményre. Having hiked all day in the rain I was soaking wet and cold and not only was the food good and warming but the care and the service of the owner was most heart-warming!
