It seems that the here is slightly warmer than at other south coast beaches and very clear. The depth increases gradually, making it very safe for children. The bottom is evenly and homogeneously sandy with a beautiful wavy pattern, so there isn't much to see underwater, but it's still very pleasant, even say meditative at some point, to swim parallel or perpendicular to the coast. Plakias is a lovely crescent and has clear especially on the left end side where the mountain is. There are several bars/restaurants/Tavernas especially on the western side with a boardwalk from the little bridge to the pier. Some restaurants have music bands on Sundays. Its an hour drive from Rethymno on a not very difficult road, appart from some specific places. The was blurry probably due to the waves but the sand inside along with the waves were great for gaming....you can park almost at the beach...i would recommend you visit it. Very very clean beaches at plakias and also nearby the shopping center of the town with all of the cafes and resturants. In the last years the hidden town became more known touristic place but still the place is just magical. One of my favourite on Island.
