Ruined Benedictine situated a short from Lewes town centre. While much of the original structure was destroyed, the remaining walls and arches are still impressive to behold. I was surprised by the extent of the and informative signs within this public park. It mentions that the was originally founded in 1078-1082, but destroyed in 1538 (Henry VIII). The signs were more extensive and surprisingly informative than expected, and a great piece of so central. Quite a few dogs around, and a few benches - though not an enormous amount of shade. An insight into what must have been an extraordinary place. Basically, ruins in a field. But absolutely worth a visit. Great for families and picnics. Park and walk. No cafe or toilets. Easy access. Informative boards around the site. Lovely place, great for a and look around. Had a nice to Lewes and this was one of the first places we went to. I didn't know Lewes even had a until today. In its hayday it was ginormous. There are still available to look at free of charge with information boards. It's a large flat site and well worth a visit. Was lucky to find a quiet Priory. Recommended 🤩❤️💯 Always nice to through, even more so on a sunny day. Occasionally people come and dress up and sword fight nearby, which adds to the effect. You see the in 5 mins, so not somewhere i'd go out of my way to visit, but a nice short if you're in lewes Stunning spot to wander through, learn some rich and stop and have a picnic. Free entry with a carpark nearby which has 1 hour free parking. Dogs welcome. The back of the opens up onto a playing field for an extended dog walk. Well kept and respected place, very calming and enjoyable to lewes in 15 mins from the high street. Otherwise carparks every where. Battle of Lewes reenactment was amazing! Great town.
