Large air museum, free to enter, no wait, plenty of free parking. Be prepared to walk (strollers welcome) from a location to another. Trilingual information, brochures available too. Train tickets are sold on the spot and may be slightly confusing (several trains, prices vary from type, etc). Ask ahead at station. Plan at least 3 hours if you wish to train. Be aware the location closed at lunch but there’s a cafe with a nice patio. Excellent place for everybody who loves historical trains. We went firstly for lunch in the restaurant and after that took a ride with 1900. It takes approx 25 mins there & back. We went for 1st class. You can buy tickets directly at the station and pay also by card. There is a little souvenir shop with plenty of lovely things. We bought pins and magnets. Highly recommended. Fond-de-Gras in Luxembourg is a truly exceptional destination, and our visit left us thoroughly impressed! Exploring Fond-de-Gras is like stepping back in to an era of industrial history and natural beauty. We had the opportunity to ride the charming that traverses this picturesque region, and it was a journey filled with awe-inspiring landscapes and a sense of nostalgia. One of the highlights of our visit was the exploration of the mines. The guided tours provided a fascinating insight into the rich mining heritage of the area. Descending into the underground tunnels, we gained a deeper appreciation for the challenges and achievements of those who worked in the mines. The preservation and restoration efforts in Fond-de-Gras are truly commendable. The heritage railway and the well-preserved mining infrastructure pay homage to Luxembourg's industrial past while providing an immersive and educational experience for visitors. Moreover, the natural beauty of the surrounding landscapes adds to the charm of Fond-de-Gras. The lush greenery and serene atmosphere create a perfect setting for a day of exploration and discovery. In summary, Fond-de-Gras is a captivating destination that seamlessly blends history, nature, and education. Our visit, which included a scenic ride and an exploration of the mines, was a remarkable experience that left us with a deep appreciation for this unique corner of Luxembourg. I went to a company event to spend the day and have a ride. It was a good quality no doubt, and a great experience. The place is beautiful and well maintained. There was a steampunk band playing some cool music. Really recommend the space. Is a free air museum that is free to wander around in. Every Sunday during summers volunteers man the cafe and restart the old trains. Two minor complaints, none of the displays are in English (just French and German), Secondly website is very basic with minimal information. I was not able to find out any information on when the trains run or where the other museums are located or when and if they are open. I managed to find one of the other ones but it was closed and nothing was posted about when it would open. Despite this it is worth an afternoon to visit especially if you enjoy old machinery Tip: if you walk to the very end of the park where the trains are there is a cafe and inside are some brochures in English. Note cafe is only on Sunday. We went for the "open day" that they proposed. The shortest 20' ride was perfect with our 3-year old, and pushing the buttons of an old switch board was super fun, too (not sure if this hall is always or only for special occasions, though). Loved the place. You can either reach it through a small hike or by an old train. Done both and both amazing. We were here on a Thursday before noon. But nothing to do here at that time. Came back at 14.45 and that just in for the train. It is the only that goes underground in the week and there was not enough places for everybody. And too bad you cant but tickets in advance. But we were lucky and got in the train. And got a tour underground, very nice. The explanation is only in French in German. The underground is nice and recommended. Just be there early so you can get on the train. Ok.. this was announced as the busiest day of the year, so we expected a crowd. But no waiting and lots of fun for both kids and adults.
