This place used to be the bomb, great tsoureki amazing pastries 🍰 but it has aged very badly. The service is bad to the point of rude, as if it is a privilage to be in their presence. The pastries are rarely fresh, and the Tsoureki has declined in quality even though prices have gone up. Now the atmosphere is a question of if you like a rustic feel. I personally like it a lot because it is part of their history and I can respect that. The only reason I would visit again is purely due to nostalgia. Stepping into this place is like stepping back in time to the late 50's - early 60's, thanks to the decor. I figure adding up the ages of the patrons whom are currently sitting in this place I'd be approaching the number 8000. The seating area here is vast and the senior members of Greek society gather as friends to discuss at length all the things old people like to talk about. I can imagine back in the 1980's and before a thick cloud of cigarette smoke lingered in the upper 2/3s of this inside atmosphere, but (thankfully) there is no more smoking on the inside this place. Around since 1892 Varsos prides itself on still baking their wares with the same recipe and ingredients as always. So if you are looking for tasting Greek pastries this is the place to come, but pastry wise they are not stuck in the past. There is a wide variety of more modern pasties and cakes to select from as well. If it is cold outside, or pouring rain and you want to sit somewhere with ample seating choices, drink got beverages and nibble on a variety of pastries all made with real ingredients then park yourself here, visit with friends or read a book alone. Varsos will welcome you. Kifisia Beautiful shopping Area clean Air . Varsos Old Sweet shop used to be of High Quality... Now MASSED PRODUCED TERRIBLE QUALITY A MULTITUDE OF VARIETY. SAD ONLY THE NAME REMAINED THE SAME NO LONGER HOME MADE QUALITY. Varsos in Kifissia is a timeless gem with old-school charm. The nostalgic vibe lingers in every corner; from the vintage decor and old photographs to the serene back garden, where a majestic tree stands tall. We stopped by for breakfast and were delighted by the yogurt with honey and nuts: rich, creamy, and absolutely a must-try. It’s also a lovely spot for coffee and dessert, with a relaxed atmosphere that makes you want to stay a little longer. Highly recommended. We were there for afternoon coffee and delicacies. We ordered a mille-feuille and a sour cherry whipped cream, and they were fresh, delicious, and of fine ingredients. It’s one of Athens’ most iconic patisseries (it was established in 1892) and seems to be frequented by the upper class of Kifissia and Athens’ northern suburbs. Our server, Kostas, was pleasant and efficient. It has a spacious and quiet lounge. There are tables outside as well. GREECE | Athens Kifisia ! pastry established in 1892! Great flavors in which you have a very delicious dessert in a very beautiful area! A very old school dessert eatery frequented by the locals- especially the elderly. They offer a great variety of Greek desserts - I had the baklava and milk custard dessert - all were super sweet to my taste and i struggled to finish it. Its definitely different than it's looks, from the outside you will think that's abandoned but when you get inside you fill the warmth that goes but decades. It has a variety of sweets and some salty dishes to choose from. Unfortunately the service is a bit rude and it's to much stretch thin ( hire more people) and the other but think is that the sweets are not so great as they look. A 132 year old patisserie with tasty authentic Greek sweets. Greek coffee, selection of teas, bakery and dairy delicacies. A must go place if you want to taste authentic flavours and amazing atmosphere! Just been there today. I was pretty disappointed. Everything was “ok” but they didn’t have kaymaki on a Saturday, the ekler tasted a bit stale and it was a nightmare to get the receipt/pay. The icecream next to galaktoboreko was already half melted when it came to the table and the quality of icecream seemed to have dropped as well. Very Greek place for desserts, over 100y serving best quality of sweets. I had a nice dessert ( which I don't remember the name ) but very fresh, taste and not that sweet. We love Varsos! Please love us back! ( some smile from employees, some renovation on the chairs, some proper greenery at the entrance.. ) And foremost, when I say good morning to any owners, I expect a good morning back and not a frown. Had heard so much about this place so since we were in Athens on Valentine’s day we were excited to go. My husband and i did not get breakfast that morning elsewhere so we could enjoy the experience at Varsos. I ordered a tea and an ekmek. I’m a foodie and love to cook hence, I believe I have a knowledgeable palette. After a few bites I realised something was off so I stopped eating it but didn’t say anything to the server….A few hours later I was really sick. I thought maybe it could be a viral infection so I took a covid, influenza test…negative. I had chills, body aches, headache, the runs, and a slight fever for two days. Not having anything else to eat that day I knew it was the ekmek. So sad that my first experience was awful. When something is off…say something. My lesson to learn.
