We came to this region today because of this castle, since it is opened only on weekends We checked everything by phone, cheked the internet page, it said there were tours from 1 pm. We came for 3pm tour, but there was no one. We called again, the owner said he saw there was no one for 1pm or 2 pm tour, so he left. So, not only the info on the internet page is wrong (no at 4pm), but he did not wait at the hours he advertises at the entrance of the castle. He even had our number because we called him to check if it is opened today, but did not care to check if we were coming or not. Really disappointing. We visited last minute. The friendly guide was a great great grand son of the owner. Thus very well informed in all matters. Super cute small 45 minutes drive out from Bonn or Cologne. I went there during the Christmas Season, when they host a market. The atmosphere was super nice, with many small tents and vendors offering food, drinks and souvenirs. The has a main court and a backyard field, with different stalls and cabins. I think they have also accomodation where you can spend the night. From a flyer i catch on the way, i could read they have many different events along the year, with chavalry tournaments, and middle age markets, that are perfectly staged on the venue. They recreate an authentic atmosphere, and there is also a perdoemative factor that makes the experince enjoyable, with theatre plays and encatings. Every year during spring time, the offers a few medieval festivals. We visited the witchfest/Hexenfest. One can actually buy ticket earlier and safe abt EUR2, or buy on the spot. The parking costed EUR3. We had to walk about 10 mins to the castle. The walkway was not babystroller friendly. The atmostphere could have been more 'witchy'. There were many stalls selling food and merchandise. There was also owl and hawk on exhibit for petting. Burg Satzvey is a beautiful nestled in the hills near Koln. They have fantastic Medieval festivals and Jousts there. I highly recommend attending one! A beautiful castle. Even though it was closed when I visited it I was glad I went. The main reason I visit castles is for the architecture and feel of them anyway, so I enjoyed my short stroll around. So it must worth it when the activities are on! There is an open air museum nearby so you could easily visit the and the museum in a day if you don't spent all day at either, which is what I did and recommend. A hidden gem in the region. Beautiful facade of the makes for amazing pictures. Must visit! Check whether there are any activities before hand at the so that you can plan accordingly. Spend time around the lake and you will observe the family of otters swimming or laying around 😉 Seems like a great place for if there are events going on. We went on a non event day, and there were just a few open shops. Tours of the are only in German, with a rough translation page available in English. It was a beautiful on the outside but we only got to see a few rooms inside, and as it is still lived in by the family a fair amount of discussion was about the family. Very unique Christmas market and interesting tour. Dunkelbunter Sommermarkt was absolutely lovely! I greatly enjoyed myself Very accessible with public transport We went on Christmas. The market was big and pretty, full of everything you could ask for but the entrance ticket was a bit overpriced and the that they give inside of the is super boring and not worth it Visited a Great medieval Christmas market - super food, drink and a lot of crafty stalls - very warm feeling , great atmosphere and really enjoyed it !!
