As I walked towards the cathedral, I was struck by its imposing presence and architecture. 🏛️ The exterior of the is a mix of Gothic and Manueline styles, with intricate stone carvings and ornate decorations. The façade is adorned with statues of saints and biblical figures, adding to its grandeur. I was particularly drawn to the rose window above the main entrance, which filters in a kaleidoscope of colors and lights. ✝️ As I stepped inside, I was enveloped in a sense of tranquility and peace. The interior is just as impressive as the exterior, with soaring vaulted ceilings, ornate altarpieces, and stunning stained-glass windows. I spent a few moments in quiet contemplation, taking in the beauty and history of this sacred space. 🕊️ What struck me most about the Sé Catedral de Angra was its sense of history and significance. Built in the 16th century, it has played a vital role in the spiritual and cultural life of the island for centuries. As I wandered through the cathedral, I couldn't help but feel a deep connection to the people who have worshiped here over the years. 💭 As I left the cathedral, I felt grateful for the experience. The Sé Catedral de Angra is a true treasure of the Azores, and a must-visit for anyone interested in history, architecture, or spirituality. Very interesting art Historic church that is very well kept with lots of information inside. Beautiful, but not so spectacular. Nice traditional architecture. architecture. Ancient and historical. It seems that even Pope John Paul II was here. In general, the place is mysterious, beckons with its beauty. The inside is very and enchanting. Good acoustics. I like it. Festival of Sanjoanoinas. It was beautiful, and crowded. Week long festival. You must have the full tour, as it unlocks something quite unexpected (at least for me) in the heart of angra. The offer architecture and artwork within Amazing church with a lot of treasures worth seeing Free entrance Great place 💗 The biggest church in the Azores! Built in the late 16th century. It became the island’s main and has survived earthquakes, a fire, and even a royal visit or two. With its two tall towers, grand arches, and peaceful inside full of stone columns and golden altars, it’s a mix of Mannerist and Baroque styles with a significant Spanish influence. Downstairs, there’s a treasure-filled sacristy with old paintings and silver. And try to find a reading desk made of tropical woods, it is decorated with inlay made of whale bones!
