A nice monument and viewpoint at the top of Monte Brasil park. Great place to get pics of Angra do Heroísmo. Most day tours take you here and it's definitely not a view to miss. The tower is the high lookout point to overlook Angra Do Heroísmo and far beyond. There are many canons telling you that it used to be a very important military fort. There are a lot of wildly roaming birds including peacocks and chickens, as well as some beautiful parrots in cages on Monte Brasil. You can either drive up or hike up here for the views. It would also be a great point to watch sunset also. Anyway it’s a place you can’t miss when visiting Terceira Island. Wonderful hike to the top and stunning view of Angra. I recommend the hike. One of my overall favorite spots to visit. You’ll make your way up the mountain by car or by foot. There’s lots of trails and several sightseeing lookouts. There’s a little area with birds. Another that you can walk down a bit to look onto the valley were they have a shooting range. You’ll find that most tourist areas are handicap accessible and family friendly. Most are also free! The Azores does an excellent job in making the islands welcoming to tourists. They pride themselves in keeping the islands clean and most things are well marked. Be prepared to know some key phrases in Portuguese as not everyone speaks English, though many do in the most tourist packed areas. Fantastic view of Angra do Heroismo, it’s well worth going up for the view alone. Great view of Angra, easy to reach by car. There are some artillery old cannons in the surroundings, toilets, places for picnic etc you may find roosters and deers walking freely around Best views of Angra do Heroísmo with historic canons that you can move around. Full with animals all around. Worth it! I recommend hiking but you can also get there by car Kids friendly description: This amazing viewpoint sits on top of an old volcano called Monte Brasil. It’s surrounded by small stone crosses (“Cruzinhas”) and gives you one of the best views over Angra, the sea, and the giant fortress below. Long ago, soldiers stood here to watch for enemy ships. Right here you’ll also see a tall white monument—the Padrão do V Centenário. It was built in 1932 to celebrate 500 years since the discovery of the Azores. It looks like a modern stone tower with a cross on top, reaching for the sky—like a lighthouse for history!
