Even though we both didn't speak a mutual language, she tried her best to help us. A lovely quant small fortified old church. Worth a visit if in the area. It's a pity that it is still not still in use or at least the gardens looked after better. Be careful if you decide to climb to the tower. The views are lovely, but the ladders are an accident waiting to happen. There's also pigeon poo everywhere. Could be better looked after. But still all the same. Just be safe. Valea Viilor Fortified Church is a UNESCO site which implies that it should have a open hours schedule and adhere to it. But it was closed although it was close to 11 am. I am not sure why, as it does not have much over the other fortified churches in the area, but it was nice. You wont get a great guide as in Cincu, it is not especialy big, but we really liked it. It has some sculptures wich are nice, a well maintained tower. Must see. There is fixed program and you pay a ticket. The lady working here was very nice. Despite a bit of a language barrier, she made an effort to explain all the areas we could look around and go. We went up the bell tower which was cool. There is a view at the top. There isn't a ton to see, but you could spend about an hour looking around. We saw several fortified churches on our trip and this one stands out as one of the better ones since you could poke around and explore some unique areas. In addition to the bell tower, you could go through a door in the church that I think led to an attic. There is a compost toilet available and a very small gift shop with photos and some history on the place. Beautiful fortification, worth the visit. It’s usually closed and you have to call for someone to open (phone numbers on the door). It takes 10min for her to get there (She speaks only Rumanian and German). Cash only payments, closed when we were there - according to sign need to make appointment the day before want to see it. Nice from the outside! Romantic and beautiful. She said there are just two German origin people left in the village, the last celebration/confirmation in the church was in 1989.
