Museum of the Swiss Charters houses the documents from 1291, that made Switzerland a Confederation. A must from a Historical perspective. A must-visit for history buffs when in the region. This unassuming museum houses some of the most important documents from the early days of the Swiss confederation. An informative audio guide leads you through the exhibit. There are several dozen of medieval treaties, all with huge seals, on display, including the famous 1291 Rütlischwur document (albeit now contested by historians). A small gift shop and cafe on site. Friendly and supportive staff. Great museum & very friendly staff! Worth a visit!! The Federal Charter Museum in the cantonal capital of Schwyz can be easily reached by bus from the train station. You will be greeted warmly and given an audio guide. The museum consists of the entrance area and the room in which the many great documents and also the Federal Charter can be seen. The audio guide is extensive and the many documents are explained very well The original earliest treaties which lay the foundation of the Swiss confederation can be seen here. There are also a number of touch-screens explaining in great detail the origins and early history of the Swiss confederation (in German, French Italian and English). Very instructive if you want to understand exactly how the Swiss confederation came into place. Nothing very spectacular though - no arms, no armors, no battle scenes or anything alike. Must visit! The only place where you can see the real Charters of Confederation What an incredible and inspirational experience - to be able to see history so close up! Our "Tour de Suisse" students were absolutely blown away by this amazing opportunity! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Such an interesting museum ☺️ We as foreigners living in Switzerland found it also very interesting to learn about the history of the Swiss federation. It explained a lot to us about how Switzerland is, in a positive way. Had an incredible time exploring the significant papers that define Switzerland! Welcomed by a very warm receptionist, and the exhibits themselves were kept in immaculate conditions with very detailed yet interactive descriptions. Definitely worth visiting.
