There is a walking adventurous track that takes to the top of Gran Sasso from Campo Imperatore with a 6km hard climbing track!! The view from the top is something unique!! 💪👍🇮🇹 Amazing and beautiful. Such a different way to experience Italy. Was with a group hike to Pizzo Cefalone (2.533m). Took approximately 4.5 hours to ascend and return with largely inexperienced hikers (including myself). Skilifts closed. You cannot ski here as use to be. The place look abandoned. It is a shame, as most of those people who lives and works there have been trying their best to keep this magnificent place alive! It use to be a place better than a 5 stars luxury but my disappointment doesn't allows me to give more than one star. Campo Impreratore out of this world. If you are ever in Abruzzo you have to go there. It's a very special place with spectacular scenery and an experience you will share with many. This park is amazing and definitely worth a visit! Stay on the "main" roads and don't take short cuts. Definatly have to come back, there is too much to explore. I almost want to keep this special part of Italy a secret as it's too good to spoil with bus loads if tourists sprawling the tiny towns and natural parks! We saw a wolf in the midst of cows and horses, shepherds herding their sheep flocks and witnessed the sun set over the majestic mountain tops. It a been a great day !!
