It's not like the animal shelters in the states. It's mostly outside kennels and there weren't many to choose from. I recently visited Tierheim Kaiserslautern after calling ahead to ask what donations they needed. I brought food and toys for the animals, hoping to help in any way I could. I also expressed my interest in volunteering to assist with cleaning or caring for the on a set day. However, I was disappointed to be told that I couldn’t volunteer because I don’t speak German, even though I’m fluent in English and willing to help wherever needed. I can’t help but wonder—why do I need to speak German to work with animals? Here I thought were more inclusive than humans and could communicate without any language barriers. Despite my eagerness to contribute, my offer was denied. When I asked if I could see the cats, I was told this wasn’t possible because I didn’t have a “cat visit” appointment. The entire experience left me feeling unwelcome and excluded. It’s disheartening to want to integrate into the community and offer support, only to be turned away. I truly hope the Tierheim reconsiders how they engage with people who are eager to help, even if they don’t yet speak fluent German. A little kindness and flexibility can go a long way in building a stronger, more inclusive community Terrible place. They said they've had bad experiences with but we were sure to give Voltrix or Lio a great place to thrive, explore the outside, but because we are military, they said they will not let us adopt. They mentioned airlines not accepting, we said we can just choose another airline. They said it's because of money for the airlines we said it will not be a problem. They said it's also because of other things but it felt like discriminatory bias protected by baseless excuses said to be as "policy". Long story short: if your are in the military, do not come here as these people do not want to let you adopt. They say it's policy. Wonderful place.Nice people and wonderful animal. just need to find the perfect home and lots of love😘 US rating one star because they are not allowed to or because there are not a lot of in the shelter to chose from....thank you for that rule. Enormous amounts of pets that get rehomed or abandoned by personnel. This is a great shelter. Nette Leute. All the Service members moaning and complaining that the won't take your pet when you PCS or won't let you a pet. Thank the soldiers that just dumped the pet of in the woods instead of paying to transport it to the next duty stay. I paid to have my Rottweiler sent to Germany and had her till she passed away from cancer. So instead of arguing with the staff ask yourself why the orders are in affect about Personal. Discriminatory behavior that I’m not accustomed to as a US member. My kitty of 10 years passed away six days before moving here. My husband and I are finally ready to a new kitty that we would give an amazing life to. But because we are military, we are discriminated against. We will find a new kitty when the time/place is right. Just not here. Beanna alphabet- I'm not surprised. Many of you are having a good time with your pet, and when you have to pay for transport to Usa, are announced on facebook and are often abandoned in the forest. Lovely place! I adopted my first cat from this shelter. Had her for five wonderful years. Unfortunately, she died last year☹️ I would give 5 stars if only they featured more of the on their website! Lg (US PERSONNEL, STAY AWAY AND SAVE YOUR TIME!) Will not accept your pets here. Very rude staff at the front desk and they are willing to let you just abandon your animal. I’m leaving the country and have no other options but to surrender my cat, I explained this to the staff and they refused to help or even help call another shelter when I asked, to check if there was any availability (since my German speaking skills are not the best.) Very disappointed with this facility and the staff. They also claimed there was no space to accept any animals, which was a lie. I had walked through the cat areas prior to talking to the staff and saw many empty cages. The fact that you dont allow service members to is just not right. So because some are mean and cruel you think all of us are. I would come get a cat tomorrow and provide that cat with an amazing life and home. When I PCS I would do what I did to bring my cats over here from the states. Look up the requirements, get them chipped if necessary, get them a health certificate certified by a vet, talk to the airline to discuss the requirements for pet travel and pay the cost all.of which I did for both my cats. What this means is many pets in your shelter go unadopted They won't let members adopt. This was confirmed via telephone.
