To see the rest you must walk around to the top. Amazing how they used the rock as fortification. Watch out for the nettle plants on the path!!!! The ruin is a bit of an old not well maintained building but the view is nice. Be sure to bring your own coffee, food and entertainment as there isn’t any on the site (well, maybe Frankenstein, depending on your wife, …) What a great historical landmark! The directions to the led us the wrong way, but we ultimately figured it out. Once we got to the top, we walked around, took some photos and admired the view of the town from the top of the ruins. Use the first few pictures I posted for reference! Go up the steps and you see the placard for the ruins, take a left on the hidden steps and then another left and you will see the going up! It’s a nice hike to get to the top where the is located but it’s so worth it! The views once you reach the top are so cool. I do advise a bit of caution since it’s an unmanned so there’s no real safety nets except for the guardrails! Located in Frankenstein, Germany, this was constructed around the mid 1100s. Admission is free and it is open 24 hours. It is illuminated at night. It is not handicap accessible and there are no facilities. There is a semi-improved trail leading to the from a small parking area. At the site are informational displays in the German language, you will have to use a translation app to read it. There is one picnic table on site. There are no trash cans so take your trash with you... do not litter. This includes, but is not limited to cigarette butts, plastic bottles and aluminum cans. The best is from the cemetery, close to the church. Amazing piece of history. When I arrived I was the only person here, making exploring the much more enjoyable. The are in terrible condition, and it only takes about 10 minutes to see the entirety of the castle. There are several miles of hiking trail directly behind the which takes you through a beautiful forest. Highly recommend. Two different pathways can go up to it. One starts down next to a little store/bar where everyone smokes. Can't miss the bar, but the is hard to spot. Another is a little down the road and near the church. The hike is nice to get up there. Not much to see, it should only take an hour out of your day. Now if you’re going to visit a Frankenstein ruin, this would be the one! It has the feeling of evil doing all over it! There’s also a church and cemetery right below it and the hike up to it is amazing! This one was well worth the drive out and it isn’t that far from Ramstein! Outstanding ruins! Ein idyllischer Ort.
