Location was great. The big garden is a plus. Very nice place in the middle of Biertan. They also have a medieval-themed restaurant right below the church, in the village center. Clean rooms in an old house with a big terrace and courtyard. The restaurant (also breakfast area) and pension are 200m apart. The restaurant is very nice, interior breathes middle-age atmosphere with armors and weapons decorating the walls, very nicely done. Food was good, but I am sorry to say I was not happy with service, I got the feeling people working there don't like their job. The was ok, also reflects middle ages. Kinda strange to have pension separately, was weird, having to look for the poorly marked building and than my inside it. Pension has an old bronze plate on the wall above the door, not illuminated. Made a reservation for a superior twin with city view. Someone called me from the Unglerus Pension right after (on a Sunday evening) telling me that if we want to stay one night the does not have any windows, only for two nights with upfront payment and non refundable you get to have windows. We canceled the booking. Customer service terrible and also false advertisement on booking. How can a with city view have no I wonder?! PS: called the location twice to discuss after I checked the details of the reservation, got no answer. After the review, the phone started ringing and messages coming in. I have no obligation talking to anyone after I cancel the booking. The fact that you have 3 types of twin rooms does not entitle you charging and advertising a with a view and then informing the guest that the in fact has no given that it is booked for one night. You specifically told me that the good rooms (with windows) are still available but you keep them for 2 nights bookings. Completely unprofessional, nothing further to be discussed. I go there every August for the past 5 years and I always make sure I dine or take lunch there, at least once every trip. I really love the mushrooms with polenta. The stew is made with local sour cream and it is amazing. You should definitely try it! Pleasant staff but a very mediocre hotel. furnishings were worn and in need of updating. No hot water available; cold showers only. Water was not potable but no drinking water was provided in room; we had to search out a filtered water dispenser in hotel lobby. We appreciated the breakfast that was provided but the dinner purchased at the hotel the night before was unpleasant...we received a chicken rice soup that arrived without any rice, very few vegetables and with a thin broth that had neon green flecks in it -- perhaps from a packaged soup stock? As aesthetic as it gets. This place was remote and fantastical. Our had a single golden window onto the pines and spires of ancient Transylvania. The restaurant was very strange with good food and prices, wonderful wine, and questionable auxiliary choices. Would return. Truly a “resort” in every sense of the word.
