West Submersible Bridge of Corinth's Isthmus

Corinth, Greece Bridge

Top-rated.online cuts through the clutter, highlighting only the reviews that are most helpful, earn the most likes, or come from the most active contributors. Great option, often the fastest way and worth seeing Unusual bridge located on the north side of the canal which sinks via electric wench instead of lifting to open to let ships in. There are considerable waiting times whenever a ship passes. For a more spectacular view of the canal, a visit to one of the higher bridges is recommended during sunset. Man made marvel Corinth Canal connects into Ionian Sea Just loved this submersible bridge. Sadly the canal is not open at the moment (5th April 2023) as they are fixing a rock slide. So no ship watching for us🙁 The Sinking Bridge of Poseidonia is a place to visit if in the area…. You can see the channel from bellow and imagine the past time and history of the place!!! One of the bridges that helps you cross from the peninsula to the mainland, and the closest one to Corint. You can also park nearby and get across on foot, just to admire the views. The pedestrian walkway is on the middle of this bridge that can be sunk to let ships pass and it is an interesting thing to see. Close by, you will find old sites where the Germans used to mount machine-guns to guard the passage. Did not get to see the bridge in action but it's really beautiful and the knowledge that it sinks all the way down to let ships pass instead of parting ways must be bliss.
