Essex Wildlife Trust Hanningfield Reservoir Nature Discovery Park

Chelmsford, United Kingdom Visitor center

Top-rated.online cuts through the clutter, highlighting only the reviews that are most helpful, earn the most likes, or come from the most active contributors. An array of birds and wildlife to see along with different trails of unspoilt beauty. Walking to the Fishing Lodge is a must, sitting outside being joined by ducks and swans intrigued to see what we are eating. You can hire out rowing boats too,if it takes your fancy. A must for nature lovers! For a nice flat walk the EWT at Hanningfield is ideal, the park is located on the fringe of the Hanningfield reservoir and therefore ideal for bird spotting, there are numerous hides situated on the banks of the reservoir. Flat marked paths run though the woods and kids can follow the Wind in the Willows trail. There is a onsite cafe/shop with excellent coffee and Tiptree cakes. Delicious cake, amazing wildlife, good walks. What more can you ask for from a nature reserve. The hides over the reservoir give fantastic views of the birds on the water too! A nice morning walk which we finished off with a cream tea from the café inside,£5:55 and the scone was fresh and tasty. We got a window seat and watched the birds feeding from the bird feeders. Went for autumn walk and also to find out about access for my husband who uses a mobility scooter. The man on the door gave us a map and explained which part was accessible and which corner wasn't. They have a sturdy mobility scooter that can be borrowed and can be booked on advance. We walked from Visitor Centre to the Cafe on the Water and back. All hides were accessible. Both centres had toilets suitable for disabled people and parking for people with blue badges. As you can see from the photo's they also have a trail for children of all ages! Great option for a cheap exploration day. Free parking, loads of options on trails to follow, and the hides views over the reservoir are stunning. Some decent options on food. Good choices in the gift as well, with some great "Wind in the Willows" items and extras. Such a tranquil space. Woodland walks, hides to watch the wildfowl. You are surrounded by wildlife so keep your ears & eyes open! Easy walking if you follow the trail signs....some paths were designated wheelchair friendly but after Autumn leaf fall these were less apparant or navigable. Two lovely cafes ( one half way round the full walk from the visitors' centre) made welcome pit stops. Truly scrumptious mince pies! Honestly, an incredible experience from the moment we arrived and were greeted by the lovely lady outside. The facilities are clean, has a great cafe and shop, and the walks / views are sensational! Amazing place . Great for a long forest style walk , beautiful scenery , cafes are brilliant and clean , tidy and staff are always lovely and polite . Lovely walks if you want a more peaceful day with a chance of seeing more wildlife choose a weekday as there are many families at the weekend. Small coffee and some cakes - a vegan one was available. There is a gift selling wildlife essentials for bird watchers and garden feeders, some other gift types and local artworks A great cheap day out to a wonderful forest, loads of cool bits to lookout for and enough parking. Visitors centre is nice too with a gift & cafe that sells plenty of food and coffee. Beautiful place anytime of the year. The facilities are very nice. Also I'm happy to support Essex Wildlife Trust. Thanks for the amazing work! Went to Hanningfield Reservoir early one morning to watch the sunrise. It was beautiful!
