Staff are so friendly, helpful & happy. Atmosphere was just right not super busy, temperature was perfect (insanely hot pubs seems to be a thing) Had a lovely Guinness and Jamieson. Not food on the menu otherwise we would have stayed. This is very busy bar in the heart of Athlone, live music most nights of the week, it goes to the back outdoor area, lots of character, absolutely amazing staff, very good night out. We didn't eat here. I don't know how to review this Bar! The only food available was Pizza! I didn't want Pizza, so I left without buying anything. It looked a very nice bar and I would return to enjoy what I'm sure is a wonderful atmosphere especially on a music night (Are the an Irish music pub?). One odd thing was the location of the A-board on the street., it was right in the door entrance. I had to climb over it. Good pub! Had the sport on the big TV in the back, good Guinness and espresso Martinis! Looks good. No service. Dropped in for a drink - captain morgans, Kalua & coke with ice, topped with Guiness head. Bar man said he was unable to serve this, as he hadn't the ingrediants. I pointed to the bottles & indicated this was not the case. He said NO. Inexperience or no customer servive. I popped to the Snug, where the bar man was more helpful. Barman told us to leave just after charging us for drinks. We had paid for the drinks and in my opinion were ripped off. We then asked to speak with the manager and were refused and told get out of the pub in an aggressive way with security enforcement. Our Irish friend was sold a drink and allowed to drink it. We then asked multiple times to speak with management outside of the bar but nobody responded. The security said that the manager thought we were drunk but he didn’t believe that. I feel we were discriminated against just because of our ethnicity and will be seeking legal advice with respect to this. There was no other reason why they would have asked us to leave as we were behaving normally and only had two drinks prior to arriving at this bar. I will avoid this establishment in future. Best place in town, always buzzing, plenty of seats, always good live music, love the beer garden in the summer. Great for watching live sports. Pizza is absolutely out of this world. Service appears to be selective and not in order even when it’s quiet, all the time. Very difficult to get the attention of the blonde lady behind the bar. I thought the Ukrainian customers who brought a dog shouldn’t have been let inside especially when loud music is being played, it wasn’t raining and there was plenty of seats outside. It’s no place for kids or pets. We are regular customers and we will be back. The positive outweighs the negative. One bartender in particular is very professional and serves amazing cocktails, you can see the effort in it (tall dark man with glasses and beard, appears to be the “lead”). Another reliable man behind the bar is Sean. Other than that it’s a great ambience and attention to detail. It’s a must to do in Athlone. Thanks for your service and see you again The Monday Club, K-BBQ and Wild Mushroom & Ham pizzas were excellent. Good selection of beer taps and excellent cocktails. Outside seating is nice.
