40 Maidens monument

Balchik, Bulgaria Sculpture

One of the Best Places To Visits in Balgarevo Top-rated.online cuts through the clutter, highlighting only the reviews that are most helpful, earn the most likes, or come from the most active contributors. Nice view An interesting sculptural representation of the forty maidens of Kaliakra a legend about forty bulgarian girls that were captured by the Turks and preferred to jump from the tower where they were imprisoned and kill themselves in order to not be dishonored. I leave only three stars because the sculpture is in a state of disrepair with no conservation care by the authorities. Freedom woven into stone. On this windswept cape, a monument rises — unnoticed by many, unforgettable to those who know. As legend tells it, when the Ottoman invaders came, a group of Bulgarian maidens were captured here at Cape Kaliakra. Rather than face slavery and shame, they braided their hair together, climbed to the cliff’s edge, and leapt into the sea. They chose death over dishonor, freedom over life. This sculpture stands in their memory — women who became a legend, and a legend that became silence. There is no plaque. No guide. Only stone, sea, and history. Now you know. Pass it on. Nice view. Beautiful sea colours. The authorities must participate in renovate the place, needs maintenance. Must visit if you are in the area. There is an old lady there who makes awesome handmade dolls and muppets 😇 Very interesting place with owner spirit! One of the best sights on the EU side of the Black Sea Beautiful though sad story sits behind the sculpture. Nice view.
