An Authentic Romanian Feast – A Must-Visit! Stumbling upon La Saivan at the last minute turned out to be one of the most memorable dining experiences we've ever had. Despite fasting for Easter, the owner welcomed us with open arms and went above and beyond to provide a deeply traditional meal that felt like a warm embrace of Romanian culture. From the moment we stepped inside, we were transported to a different era. The rustic decor, the aroma of wood-fired bread, and the sight of food served in traditional clay pots created an atmosphere that was as authentic as it was inviting. Our culinary journey began with a generous serving of zacuscă—a rich, smoky vegetable spread—paired with freshly baked homemade bread. Every bite was a perfect harmony of flavors, setting the tone for the meal to come. Next came a vegetable sour soup, brimming with fresh, vibrant ingredients and served alongside fiery spicy peppers for those craving an extra kick. It was the kind of dish that warms you from the inside out. For the main course, we savored Iahnie de fasole, a hearty and comforting white bean stew, accompanied by a crisp fresh salad and tangy pickled mushrooms that added an unexpected yet delightful contrast. Each bite carried the unmistakable taste of home-cooked perfection. Just when we thought the experience couldn’t get any better, dessert arrived—a homemade apple strudel, its flaky crust encasing a perfectly spiced apple filling. A sweet, nostalgic ending to an already unforgettable meal. To elevate the evening, we were treated to a selection of traditional homemade beverages: Țuică (a robust 32-degree plum spirit that packed a punch), Vișinată (a smooth cherry-infused liqueur with just the right amount of sweetness), and Refreshing apple juice for a lighter, crisp finish. One of the most magical moments of our visit was watching the owner bake fresh bread in a wood-fired stove. The sight, the smell, and—best of all—the taste of two warm slices, gifted to us straight from the oven, was something we’ll never forget. Between the exceptional hospitality, soul-warming dishes, and the deep cultural authenticity, La Saivan is a place that deserves to be experienced by anyone looking to taste the heart of Romania.
