Very pretty place to come in the summer for a picnic. Short up if you take the cable car and lovely stream to cool your feet. Amazing place and worth of walking 40 minutes🤗😍😍 A magic and powerful place to visit. Go there in the morning if you want to be alone. What a lovely little valley hiding away at the top. A little punch bowl you would never know was there unless you went there. Only half hour up from the lift. Astonoshingly beautiful, it's a plateau at the foot of Mont Fort. Winding streams of water meet birds, surrounded by the peaks. If you go on a weekday it won't be too crowded. It's also worth hiking up from Siviez, takes about 90 minutes, 500 meters ascent, and the way up is also astonishing, with views over the Siviez-valley. beautiful hike We visited the Jardin japonais after reading about it in the guide book. We had initially planned to take the chairlift and then but as the chairlift was initially not working, we postponed our visit, stopping at Tortin instead. A few days later we returned, taking the chairlift to Tortin and then hiking the short distance to le Jardin japonais. The gentle was easy enough, but also covered enough ground to make it feel like a proper little hike. The jardin did not disappoint, with artfully ‘arranged’ alpine plants and boulders giving the impression of a curated space. The streams that cross-crossed the jardin were as clear as they were cold! A few brave souls were paddling but we could only manage a few seconds of exposure to the ankle-achingly cold water. We stopped for a lovely picnic and explored along with many other fellow explorers, but never found the jardin feeling overcrowded. A short back to Tortin and a chairlift back to Siviez completed our wonderful, memorable visit. It is not a terribly long hike/walk from Siviez, so you shouldn’t be discouraged if the chairlift isn’t working for any reason; we found the from Siviez to Tortin took about an hour, and le Jardin japonais is a further forty minutes beyond that. At Tortin there are facilities so you could stop here to refresh yourself also. I believe there are walks beyond the jardin to the nearby glacier. We would heartily recommend the whole area from Siviez, but the Jardin japonais is definitely worth a visit, especially if you purchase a multiple day ski-lift pass as we did, and wish to explore the local area. We have used the shorter and harder way to go up but that was 2hrs to go there too. Even the way to go there is beautiful.
