A 10-mi note ride up the mountain from Trapani to Erice, a beautiful ancient town the roots of which go back to 1200 B.C.E. Most of the structures, houses, churches, and a monastery, visible today are from the high to late middle ages. But there is also an old temple area dedicated to Venus, which is, of course, much older. Definitely worth doing to see the mountain top part of Erice. We went up about 3pm and no queues at all. Once we came down at about 7.20pm there were huge queues for people to get to summit to see sunset. Obviously if your afraid of heights skip it and drive. But the are amazing. They do need to clean the windows more often though. Convenient parking for 3 euros Very affordable price and provides for beautiful of Trapani and the Saline on top of getting you to Erice. If you can get your in advance please do so as there is a separate entry line for holders. If you have to buy your tickets, the line can be long on the weekend. Lovely place. going up the cable car, I did not expect that there would be a small town, with monuments, cafes, inhabitants and the best Italian specialties - cannoli siciliano and genovese buns. walking through the narrow streets of the city of ERICE you will see many monuments, beautiful tenement houses, chapels and churches. Interestingly, life functions normally there! People live there, go out on terraces, balconies, shops are open, they take out garbage (even when tourists go), there are chotels, Italian language is heard everywhere - like in a fish market and a lot of tourists eager to see this wonderful place. I didn't have so much time, but it's worth going there along the trail for visitors, which is in front of the entrance to the city and the ticket office. the trail leads around and through the city, where you will see the ruins of the castle, towers and other architectural monuments. For MTB and Downhill enthusiasts, I recommend the descent from ERICE to Marsala on a gravel road, which is gentle and you can easily go there on foot! I recommend visiting this place-Erice as well as the center of Marsala, because these are places worth visiting while in Sicily Nice from the top. 9 Euro each way, so total 18 Euro. Parking is located in front and costs 1.5 Euro for 3 hours. Dont follow any man who wants to show you where to park, just park in front, the parking is secure and no hassle. Visited in September 2023 ,one way ,18 euros for 3 adults expensive I thought. Nice journey down but windows are dirty and seats are old .warning doesn't operate on windy days. I decided to take the cable car rather than drive. It takes about 14 minutes each way but Erice was stunning. I think it’s a must see, especially the castle area. Easy for parking, 11 euros for a round trip ticket. Helpful staff. The cable cars are a bit old, but they work. Nice long ride up the mountain with of Trapani and it's coastline. Its better than driving up the spaghetti roads on the mountain to Erice. a 10 minute scenic ride in a dated cable car, which is a pitty cause the view is amazing but can't be admired fully due to scratched and blurred windows. Parking is right next to the station and are able to be purchased at the counter. There is a ramp by which you can get to the cars but we weren't allowed to use it with our two strollers so we had to carry them by the stairs. I asked for help getting them up at the counter but received only italian scoffs. Aside from that, lovely experience to go and see Erice like that. It was easy to purchase round trip at the counter. Round trip were cheaper than individual if you’re coming back down. There was some wind. I did not want to purchase prior through the internet just in case it becomes closed due to the wind. But, we made it on and eventually back down several hours later. Great and easy way up and down. The cabins are very old and were dirty, it was not possible to take good photos. It was kinda scary. It is really easy to reach the starting point by bus. Informacja że nieczynne do 11 kwietnia, dopiero po odczytaniu z kartki naklejonej na drzwiach. Masakra! W ogóle to Trapani to jedna wielka pułapka komunikacyjna. Absolutely fabulous experience. Very affordable and a great way to get to Erice with amazing of Trapani. Maybe the price is little high but for someone who would like to get fast and with beautiful to Erice I highly recommend. In the beginning of may it was not crowded at all, you can buy and immediately go for a ride. Good things that you can open a windows there so it was not too hot inside. Bis April 2025 nicht in Betrieb wegen Wartung The cabins were old and squeaky but no problems. We checked online, arrived and it is not working. No info at the entrance, nothing. Trapani is really do not bother to update info. It’s a cheap and scenic way to up to Erice. The cable cars work just fine but they’re a bit old so taking photos is a bit trickier. The ride takes 10-15 minutes and I would recommend going when you have a clear sky otherwise you can’t enjoy the as much. You can buy in advance but I purchased them at the entrance and that was just as fine. La funivia era ciusa per lavori da 8.1.2025 fino a 1.4. 2025.
