It's a 11.5-km route that offers stunning of the lake, charming villages, and historic villas and gardens, which takes about 3.5 hours to complete at a leisurely pace. The is mostly flat and easy to walk, but there are some steeper sections so sturdy shoes are recommended. The Greenway follows the ancient Via Regina, a Roman road that once connected Como with territories beyond the Alps. It traditionally starts in Colonno and ends in Griante but the beauty of the Greenway is that it can be enjoyed in sections, allowing you to explore the different villages and historical sites at your own pace. Here is a breakdown of the into seven stages: 1. Colonno to Sala Comacina 2. Sala Comacina to Ossuccio 3. Ossuccio to Lenno 4. Lenno to Mezzegra 5. Mezzegra to Tremezzo 6. Tremezzo to Cadenabbia 7. Cadenabbia to Griante Some of the top sites you can visit along the Greenway are Villa Carlotta, Villa del Balbianello, Sacro Monte di Ossuccio, Isola Comacina. Great Hike !! Day 1 we started in Lenno after getting off the Ferry. Stepped onto the Greenway Trail, followed the heading North and hiked to Griante or the end of the trail. You can go further and sidewalk tour the Old Villas towards Menaggio but roadwork prevents you from getting through to Menaggio. Day 2 was a longer day, hiking to the start of the from the Lenno Ferry and back. This part of the is better marked, but a bit more challenging as you climb higher into the villages and enjoy Grand Vistas. A tasty Panini and Gelato is well deserved on the return leg. Va Bene Greenway is more behind a town than a along the lake. In fact, you only occasionally get down to the lake. The otherwise well-marked goes in and out between the closely packed houses. It is beautiful and interesting, especially if you come from larger and more rectangular buildings. From a Danish perspective, the has challenging inclines, but they are usually short before it becomes easy to again. Overall, it is a beautiful that is highly recommended. --- Best way to have a nice day, than take a ferry after to chill. This has some spectacular view of the and meanders through small streets and park paths. We kept to the higher elevated and did travel off a few times by mistake. Look for on walls or plaques or grates on the road to follow. Our hotel gave us a map if the greenway and we started at Lenno and finished in Colonno. Unfortunately we missed a up the hills at the trailhead in Colonno which lead to Cascata delle Comogge en route to Argegno… next time. 😁 Day one we started in Cadenabbia and walked to Lenno, returning to Cadenabbia. Day two we took the ferry to Lenno and walked to Colonno before returning. The way is well-marked with metal medallions in the or at turns. We enjoyed seeing staid mansions, bustling commercial corners, statuesque churches, quaint villages and lively playgrounds- with the grand Como in the background. Walking proved to be a great way to see the range of how people occupy this gorgeous part of Italy. Near Colono the medallions are more scarce. Beautiful place, and the walk. You can really enjoy places, and the atmosphere. Path is quite easy, but I think without a children’s trolley. Amazing along the west side of Como. The of the are fantastic as are the incredible houses and villages you by. We had a lovely along the Greenway. The is very well marked with blue and yellow directional as well as circular plaques/medallions inset into the (see pic). The wander through the villages, along the water and up to higher points provide tons of great spots for pictures. Lots of spots to stop for lunch, a drink, or a gelato along the way. You can complete the entire 11 km or one or more partial sections. The is clearly marked with and engravings, making navigation simple. Better to go slow and enjoy the view through the entire day, than to hurry though. Excellent trail.. For people going back by bus tickets are at the bar at the end. I started the way around (from Tremezzo) and I was a little bit confused with the around the and got lost, I imagine doing the right way is also better. Google maps doesn't have the entire here, worth doing some web searching through other pages that do have it. I also add a photo of the all around the that will guide you. Don't expect a sign per meter, they are really a few but just to remind you you are on the right path, they are fine. During the trekking you will find places to bathe in the lake, really really important if it is summer. If you give up at any part of the trip, try to find a bus or a ferry near where you are. For example there is a bus working all weekend that leaves you in Como city. It takes one through the idyllic streets of the ancient cities, alternating close to the and far above it. One can easily stop along the route for a drink or a bite to eat. We stopped for gelato about halfway through :) My girlfriend and I walked the whole 10.5km. During the first 5km you through towns and area's you normally won't visit. We really liked this other perspective of Como. Directions were clear, at some points it gets a little bit confusing, but nothing too major. The second half, when you're walking next to the water was, in our opinion, a bit too long. The villas are amazing but if you've seen 10, the 11th is more of the same. From this point you get almost no directions (obvious because it's just a straight line) and little info. You get less a feeling you're doing a special route. And the ending is soooo anticlimactic. The road just stops, no sign, no celebration comitee, nothing. Just turn around and the 10.5 km back It's a great way to explore Como, but I would recommend to not the whole 10.5km. Just enjoy yourself with some apperitivo and the villa's when you're at the waterside, and turn around when you're getting too drunk. This was a great but I would say it wasn’t the easiest. Wear proper shoes and expect a fair few inclines. However it was very enjoyable and plenty of beautiful of the and the local areas. Expect it to take longer than the 3h point to point if you plan to rest and take in the views. Compliments to the author of the idea! I have experienced most wonderful, breathtaking and collecting wows sightseening walk! Up and down, higher with the from above and lower with the touch of the lake, just like our lives go. Thank you for this beauty and collected to the heart. Not suitable for travelers with baby strollers, small kids as it might be tiring and people with walking difficulties. This is a great hike on mostly paved walkways BUT my husband and I are fit, completed this entire in 2ish hours. It definitely has hills with some more strenuous parts. Plenty of viewpoints for rest though! If you want to make this more of a stroll, it will take 3-4 hours. You can begin at different points if you do not want to do all 7ish miles! Be warned haha Beautiful trail, but it literally ends at a wall - no road, no forward. You can’t even to Menaggio - only a bus is available, while your car is left at the starting point.
