There is a gap in the dunes here so the sea water can move in and out. This creates immense opportunities for wildlife such as samphire and many types of bird. The creeks are very pretty and full of completely clear water. On the seaside disconnects to the main very long beach of this island. You can swim there. Top tip: the pools that form heat up quickly so can reach 25+ degrees even in 20C degree weather. Lovely for a bath. Good parking, and a nice bar restaurant is provided. Most people come by bicycle. This is a great spot to learn about the natural history of the Wadden Sea and the struggle between humans and nature. The broken dyke has created a wetland thriving with wildlife, which can be admired during a hike in De Slufter Wow! The birds! Go a couple hours before sunset, walk 20mins into the park, and just listen and observe and soak in the wonder of nature! Trail walking is great. Gravel or dirt paths mostly. Prepare for wind. No public washrooms. In one word: breathtaking! It doesn't matter what time of the year it is, it's always nice to go here. Every time of the year it looks different. Strongly recommend to go here if you are on Texel! Great piece of nature, for views and hikes! A good spot to hike and wonder in the maze of trails that make up this habitat for various birds. Fabulous dunes for walking and cycling. Important to note that May to August much of the area is closed off to protect nesting birds but the dedicated cycle paths remain open and there are some walking tracks open. Worth checking before your visit Beautiful nature! We were so lucky with the weather.
