O panorama de excepție. Fantastic trip! From Hotel Rusu, we went with a car up to Pension Floare de colt- 1536 m. From there we climbed up, following the signs , as there is a well marked trail. Going for 2 hours up nearly , making an ascent of more than 500 meters. The most difficult portion is from the 1800 m above to the top, as the % of the slope is 40% or so! But the landscape , the panorama surpasses and encompasses any pain caused by the climbing. From there one can see even the Fagaras mountains , on the right side, Transalpina road, etc. We have found on the downhill slope a huge field full of wild blueberries, as well as wild mountains cranberries. The blueberries were withered, as the season passed, still I could pick a handful to enjoy it. But the cranberries, surprisingly were fully ripe... Amazing taste! From there, on the right side one can follow the trail to go to the highest peak in Parang massif, Parangul Mare 2519 m. This one it's the 3rd highest peak in Romania. From Here to there , I advise to have water and good training as there is still 500 m going up, as ascending might be difficult. But it is worth it. Can take 3 to 4.5 hours, depending on the training state... Enjoy and do not miss this! Couldn't believe the views we saw! Amazing day for a in spite of the harsh winds. The climb is not that difficult so what are you waiting for ! Returning to Parangul Mic after more than 20 years reminded me why I love the mountains and especially this area. In the past I was hiking all along the area (to the many lakes, to Carja, Parangul Mare and beyond) with my friends. Now I have returned with my family. Maybe the kids will roam the area with their friends in a few years time as well ;) The road up is good, with a couple of scenic stops, and allows to drive the car all the way to the big antenna. From there it's maybe a 1 hour up to the Parangul Mic peak with a great view of the area around Petrosani, towards the peaks of Carja, Parangul mare and way beyond. We were lucky to have a sunny day with +8 degrees. The hike, from Hotel Rusu, took around 2:30 minutes. If you lack the time you can take the cable car up to the ski track and from there you have probably 1 hour to go. The views are great and make the well worth its pain :) If you have more time, there are more summits at around 2 h walk from there, Varful Carja.
