It was built in the 16th century and then completely abandoned, resulting in it being used in the 19th century as a storage area by local fishermen. Now the little church has regained its old religious glory thanks to the famous artist and filmmaker, Jean Cocteau, who saw the deserted church and fell in love with it at first sight. So he financed its restoration in the 1950s and, in fact, created some very beautiful murals depicting the fishermen of Villefranche-sur-Mer in their everyday life. The chapel is open for visits from Wednesday to Sunday and the entrance fee is 3 euros for adults. Very nice place to walk and visit while visiting the Dock. Some really colourful exhibitions and a good stroll up a hill and to the Fort. A meeting point for excursions to Monaco 🇲🇨 and Nice before going back to a boat. They're is a figurine museum, an art museum and a historical museum from the era of the second world War. There were also public toilet at the top of the hill. Also some public turrets to look out from to see the view of the sea. Good place..beautiful churc..in villefranch..clean city...cool..calm..classic... Wonderful experience here. It requires only a quick visit in what can be cramped surrounds if there is a group there at the same time. Why though, why, this strange obsession to prohibit taking photos? Very special place, especially with kids, they loved it, very entertaining, although a bit pricy. Go there during the morning for quicker access. Beautiful chapel from the outside, couldn't wait to get inside...when we went in I paid €8 for my sister and I with a €50 note. The woman gave me my change, and tucked the note into her money bag. A few moments later she called me back and accused me of taking back the €50 note!! I emptied the contents of my hand bag, which was practically just the change she had given me and lipgloss, she refused to believe me until my sister told her she watched her tuck it into her bum bag. And low and behold, she took the wad of notes out and there the €50 note was among the €10 notes! Needless to say this tainted our visit by being called a thief! And in a chapel too!
