This large is currently bright green because of a toxic algal bloom. The was once a large inland port, which closed in 1981. It is about 15 miles away from the Irish Sea. Not of the buildings that were situated alongside it have been demolished and now there are just swathes of private apartments and not a great deal to see. There is a moving bridge at one end to let boats into the marina, and this bridge is shared by the local steam trains too. Great place for a walk. Shame about all the rubbish left behind by those visiting McDonald's. Here for refresher Power Boat course, very friendly staff on site. Lovely cafe and restaurant. Today I went for a around the a pleasant stroll, however I then explored further and found the Millennium going off from the swing bridge at the top of the marina. Follow to the right to explore the top end of the lock and to see what the docks must have been like, great if you are a social and industrial historian. If you go left you follow the Riverside a lovely along the Ribble including the old quay side. I only went as far as Penwortham old bridge but by the end of the had completed around 5miles. Today I started my at Preston Marina, which is a lovely place to around even on a chilly Saturday morning in March. The was busy with families, joggers- still don’t understand these people, cyclists and bikers, but social distancing measures were in place so it felt comfortable. I decided to around the Marina, a good in itself, and then join the Riverside which took me into Avenham Park. The route is pretty much flat so suitable for all ages and abilities, plus it is dog and child friendly with being mostly away from the main roads. The views along the way are really lovely and there are benches along the way to rest weary feet, plus places to refresh yourself with food or drink. I completed my in Avenham Park, and as the pictures show, it is still stunning on a cold March morning. Definitely a to recommend to you all. Love a around the dock clears the mind. but dog owners need to clean up after themselves Lovely waterside docks spot with a great marine ambiance. Particularly stunning on sunny days. Locals and jog and stroll around the marina. I've strolled but have not strolled for ages. Just a lovely place to and watch the boats, and the steam train goes past also In the heart of Preston, an amazing place for a walk, boats, trains and a licensed cafe with beer garden. Always something of interest here. One of the best places for a sunset photo. Great people Just completed our RYA Power Boat Level 2 with Chris, who was a delight and very knowledgable. Good combination of theory and practical experience and local knowledge, would recommend both the course and Preston to any aspiring power boater. A good way to spend a weekend. Great training team at Preston Marina. Did the VHF SRC training course this weekend and couldn’t have picked a better venue. Chris and Steve are really knowledgable and engaging tutors. Thoroughly enjoyed the day. Just completed my powerboat 2 course with Chris. Great safe instructor and he has so much knowledge about all things sailing. Really interesting 2 days, great and training facility. All run very efficiently. Includes a free dinner too! I have learnt so much. I highly recommend this place for any boat training.
