Friends have recently bought a house in Rangersdorf so a visit to the local hostelry a must. Booked a table for 1 pm only to discover they close at 2pm! Checked and the kitchen closes at 2pm but guests can stay to 3pm. We brought our meal forward to 12.30 so that we had time to enjoy. The location is pleasant with views from the terrace across the valley to the mountains. We chose to sit indoors because you can never be sure of avoiding smokers in the outdoors. On arrival we stood in the hallway for sometime waiting for our presence to be acknowledged. Eventually given the pick of any table we fancied in the restaurant. It's clean with a good traditional ambience. After a wait of some time we were given menus and drink orders taken. Drinks delivered but again a wait for meal orders to be taken. The food was tasty, a bit oversalted for one of our party, but no other complaints there. Another member of staff/family? cleared our main course plates but no offer of dessert menu. Our original server was on the terrace chatting so I went and asked for the menu. She pointedly looked at the clock when she bought the menus but as they were all straightforward there should be no problem. Orders given. A short while later we heard the bell from the kitchen indicating food was ready. No response from our waitress who was again chatting with other guests. On the second ring with no response, I went to the kitchen to collect them. Again desserts were good. When the dessert dishes were cleared and the bill requested we again sat awhile waiting. Our friend then went through to pay. To sum up… Good location. Good food. Don't expect fast food, it doesn't happen , nor should it. However, staff should be more aware of where each table is in the duration of their meal and be reacting accordingly. If the staff were on the ball from start to finish, we would have been out earlier allowing them to enjoy a well earned afternoon off. Wonderfully kind and helpul family which runs the hotel. Surprisingly friendly pricing, beautiful and clean environment and rooms. Bathroom equipment is not the newest but it works without problem. I emphasize the really hearty care about the customer, it was a great pleasure to stay there Apple pie was so good that I ordered two. They only take cash.
