What an amazing site, with some of the escavations, artifacts dating 3000 years BC. This place is huge, it expands over several acres and a fair way down to the valley. Ancient Messι is about 30 minutes away from Kalamat by car, it is located in the western foothills of the Mountain Ithomi and it is one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece. Depending when you intend to visit, if it is during the summer months, I would recommend going there early morning, the opens a 8:30am Although there are many olives trees and benches around the site, it won't be as hot as doing your in the afternoon, and also if you come early you will have more chance to get your car parked in a shaded parking space. I would allow 2 to 3 hours to the entire site. After that you can also the Ancient Messini Museum using the same entrance ticket, though it is a very small museum. Underrated ancient site. In better condition with more structure standing than say Olympia ( not that I’d choose one over the other) Beautiful dream inspiring countryside . It seems to get less traffic than other sites. A must do if you’re in Kalamata area , or travelling through! This is a hidden gem. Highly recommended.. The access that you get to the archaeological place is something I have never seen before .. You can walk through everything and as it has been restored to a great extend( columns are standing next tou you ten meter high) you can really feel like an ancient Greek roaming at the place... Truly extraordinary.. Great place, and quite a fun drive to get there. MUST take a bottle for water. There are a few refill spots around, and you will need it. Good price. Magnificent archaeological that takes your breath away! Affordable ticket and polite staff. More amenities under the few shades would make the experience better. Definitely recommended! There are great photo opportunities here, the has so much history it is a must for anyone atall interested in the past. However, it has already been said, and is true, there is very little shade and no refreshments here. So be careful in the heat since you need to walk around to get the best out of your visit. Entry price was just 12Euro which I think is great value. Of course! Here's the revised website review with your note included: ⭐☆☆☆☆ (1 out of 5 stars) I recently attended a music event at this otherwise majestic archaeological site, but the experience was extremely disappointing. I arrived 50 minutes before the expected start time, hoping to get a decent spot, only to find that the event was already overcrowded. Despite paying the full ticket price, we were told to sit on the lawn because the organizers had clearly sold far more tickets than the venue could reasonably accommodate. There was no proper seating, no prior warning, and no differentiation in pricing. Sitting on uncomfortable terrain for over two hours was frustrating and completely unfair. There was also no mention that seating was restricted, which shows poor planning and a serious lack of transparency. What should have been a memorable evening turned into an experience I’d rather forget — and certainly won’t repeat. Very disappointed. Organizers need to be held accountable and do much better in the future. Let me know if you'd like to adapt this for a specific review platform like Ticketmaster, Google Reviews, or TripAdvisor. Fantastic insight into ancient times. Not information boards explaining lifestyle and timeliness would be great but still worth a visit. Gets quite hot in middle of the day in summer so take fluids and it's is a bit of a climb up the hill to the exit but can be taken at your own pace.
