The Kalamata is a lovely place to spend an evening, with its charming atmosphere and array of small boats. There is a large restaurant at the marina, as well as many smaller in the surrounding area. Unfortunately, some of these smaller are currently closed, which may limit the range of dining options. Overall, it is a pleasant spot to visit, but with a somewhat limited selection of food and drink. Ship docks in close enough to either walk or taxi in centre of town buses right outside to go further adrift nice peaceful not a lot going on back on ship in under 2hrs. The is full of really good restaurants. Our favourite though is Casa above the offices. A great view and breakfast until supper. Kinda fancy, but not expensive. Our third or fourth visit. Secure in bad weather, most technical services available. Fuel delivery by tanker. Clean shower and toilet facilities. Nice nearby. Handy for port authorities and coast guard. A lovely which also has quite a few restaurants. We had breakfast at Casa which is next door to Skippers....both offer lovely views of the boats. Beautiful Is quite a large with plenty of space for docking boats. The prices are very reasonable and budget-friendly. Electricity and water are charged per day rather than by usage, which is a big plus. The itself is a bit old, but still well maintained overall. The showers and toilets are also on the older side, but functional. There’s also a washing machine and a dryer available. All in all, a very pleasant and convenient place to stay. If you are a traveler visiting Kalamata, is a must. A calm place to walk, see the boats, have a coffee or food nearby. The are many of different types of food (e.g seafood, pork, beef, pasta etc) to try either during summer or even winter time. It is a 10 minutes walk from the port of Kalamata or 20 minutes walk from the center off the city. If you are a boat owner, of Kalamata is a safe place to anchor your boat (try avoid anchoring at the east side of it though for when the wind blows from the west). The one star missed is due to the fact that the owner could offer quite more to the skippers for what it charges, but for sure it is far cheaper than the Athenian Marinas. The next safe place to anchor is Foinikounta which is 29nm away. A nice 40nm route to enjoy sailing is Kalamata - Koroni - Foinikounta - Methoni - Sapientza - Pylos. First impression came from the staff, excellent help mooring and a very competent and friendly Reception team who took time to answers questions and explain the facilities. Let down are the sanitary facilities (Toilets and showers) which could really do with modernising. They fullfil their function but are very dated and also partially damaged. Also the Manager who took little notice of my complaint regarding a dodgy mooring line - he lets his staff down with that kind of unconcerning attitude towards paying guests. Restaurants and shops are generally within walking distance which adds to the charm of this small Marina. Quite possibly the most dirty and disgusting in the Mediterranean. All of the buildings around the area are dilapidated. The port office, the post office, and every retail shop and food stores. The eating establishments are all "eat at your own risk". The people are NOT friendly and quite rude / obnoxious.Terrible food and service, nothing fresh. Avoid at all cost. Head up the coast to the Ionian or south to Crete.
