The guide was very passionate and you can tell he really like talking about the site. I highly recommend a visit. It should stand as a proud memorial to one of the world’s oldest civilized settlements, dating back to 6,000 BC. Instead, it resembles a poorly maintained, badly constructed, and abandoned estate. Evidence of significant investment is overshadowed by an overwhelming sense of corruption. I strongly advise against visiting, or at the very least, keep your expectations extremely low. As an archaeologist I desperately wanted to see this place and I was so pleased to be able to do so even if I reached the few minutes after it was meant to be closed. Both the archaeologist and the guardian on were super kind in allowing me to see the place and the museum. As a milestone in European prehistory, Vinča is a must to be visited, as Lepenski Vir. I came to this place because I was just looking for a place near Belgrade to go for a walk, not too far or too close. But what surprised me was that this was an important Neolithic archaeological site, where an important civilization once lived and thrived, and I knew nothing about it before I left. It was a complete accident. Now there is a here, with two staff members, but unfortunately, we don't understand Serbian, so we lost the opportunity to communicate with them and let them explain to us. It is only 50 meters away from the river bank on the right side of the Danube. For us, this is an unexpected gain. If you like archeology, this place is amazing. The curator is great, you can see some great stuff and hear the story about the history of this important place. I loved it! :) Unfortunately, it looks a bit sad. It is obvious that there was a big project starting, there are really interesting info panels, but it looks almost deserted. The people working there are positive, but they seem a bit delusional at the same time. As if they were trying to convince everyone there is a change coming. I admire their enthusiasm and how wholeheartedly they are right. extremely disappointing, one small room with very few artefacts and a mud hut in front of the "museum" - absolutely not worth the 300 RSD entrance fee! If you can look beyond the esthetics and look into the past it's absolutely stunning. The abilities of the Neolithic people inspires. God bless. Beautiful. Here is the place where human kind trued to learn cultivation, food preparations, first trades, etc. get some details from the net before tour visit to enjoy even more… Amazing discovery. This was cultural capital of Neolithic age - 7000 years ago! Tour guide Dragan Janković was amazing. His knowledge and enthusiasm was contagious. He explained archeological findings, way of life, community structure and philosophy of this very old culture. They even started making copper jewelry 6000 years ago. Such a monumental site, centre of European Neolithic civilisation from 6000BC. One underrated place in Serbia!!! Ticket is only 200RSD and it’s not promoted enough. They don’t dig enough and it’s standing there being forgotten by everyone!! If you have time please visit Vinča, you won’t regret it!! It has one of the most enthousiastic custodians I ever saw (and I saw many) Perfect mini weekend trip regardless of age and preferences. The weather on is fresher by a few degrees compared to the surroundings and ist all due to the existing wind rose. Those stone age people knew how to pick a good spot to settle. Museum needs some remodeling so that is can appreciate thousands of years of history accordingly. The guide, and his stories will leave you wondering, maybe even wanting to time-travel to those happy days For all the hungry visitors, there are a couple of restaurants on the Danube with fresh food and an amazing view. It is a gorgeous place! Vinca is not only this geographic location, but it is rather the first European civilization covering a broad area of South-east Europe. Vinca is absolutely indispensable for anyone who wants to see the roots of the contemporary Serbian and European civilisation. The guide (Dragan Jankovic) is so passionate about explaining every single detail of the lifestyle of Vinca's prehistoric citizens. After visiting the museum, you can go to a nice restaurant on the very banks of Danube river where you can sort out your impressions whilst enjoying a genuine fish stew or having a nice beverage. Unfortunately I could not find the entrance and was told by a local that it is closed for renovation. There is no update or notice on its website. What a shame.
