The place is arranged as a small open-air archaeological museum with paid entrance and opening hours daily from 08.30 to 15.00 in the summer. Excavations show that the first inhabitants of Mesemvria - Zoni were Thracian tribes who settled the area as early as the early Iron Age. Interestingly, the was founded by residents of the island of Samos (Samothraki). The ancient settlement arose at the end of the 7th century BC as a fortified port - a colony. The acropolis of the aren't escalated, maybe in time will be more things to see. Near is also the celeber roman road Via Egnatia. If u travel in Alexandropolis area u can it. It's not difficult to walk around, just be aware the sun gets scorching so have some water. There are some resting places underneath trees, which offers a bit of shade. It could use more renovating. The was very beautiful and i liked to walk around in that historical place. Also the girl who is working there was very nice. She gave us a quick tour and told us what to in this part of Greece. Small compared to other archeological sites. I doesn't contain great peaces of ancient architecture like amphitheatres or any other buildings of significant scale.
