When I go to a for advice, I expect a certain level of integrity and professionalism. My first experience with 58 was bad. I was mislead and scammed into buying a falty product. Do not trust these people! As a beginner surfer, I wanted to buy a second hand funboard. They had one option in my size / volume. The assistant said it was a solid ready to go surf. He was friendly and sounded legit, so I trusted his advice. I bought the tor €250 and had him wax it for me. I was stoked! But it turned into a complete disaster. The was badly damaged before it came into my hands, but it had been covered up with sealer and paint. Not only was the leaking, it was literally full of small holes (green dots in photo). Also a broken fin box. It took in so much seawater at the first try, that I had to let it dry for a week (you can see the salt cristals in the photos). Then I had to have it fixed (at another shop), for an extra €110. This experience cost me 10 days of waiting, €360 and a lot of frustration... For a second hand that I barely used... (I had to fly back home with just 4 days of surf). To summarize: I should have never gone to this shop! I hope that others will have a different experience. Just be careful and never buy a that has been sealed or painted over. Or you might end up with a very expensive Swiss cheese! I sold my surfboard here. After we agreed on the price, the staff told me they only pay by bank transfer. They were friendly, and I received all the paperwork as proof of the sale, so I thought nothing about it. But almost two weeks later, I still hadn’t received the money and all my messages on their social media channels went unanswered. I started to feel scammed and I wondered if I had been too trusting. Only after sending a strict and firm email did the payment finally arrive. Coincidence? I don’t think so. Therefore, I doubt the quality of the customer service of this place and wouldn’t recommend to anyone. This is by far the best Surfshop I have ever been to. Super qualified employees. All professionals in their field. Top prices and the best service around the board. 10 stars!!! Wow such an incredible shop! Catarina was very helpful in finding me a cool present for my brother's birthday. The t shirts were folded perfect and had super cool designs!!!! The other staff were super friendly I will back to buy a surfboard soon! Their collection is world class. Update: came back to write another 5 star review but this time for their new surfboard guy, Joao Maria Lima who guided me to a much better choice with all the patience in the world for my questions and opinions. I’m finally on a surfboard that works for my skill level. I bought a skateboard there that cost me 269 euro..the very same exact model with exact components I found on-line for 189 euro. Is that just buyer beware or something else ?? I had a really disappointing experience with 58 Baleal and cannot recommend them after what I went through. I bought a Billabong 4/3 Synergy wetsuit from this in March 2025. After just two uses, the wetsuit developed delamination in the rib area — an issue that clearly points to a defect in the material. I used the wetsuit exactly as intended, for surfing, and have the exact same model in a 5/4 thickness that never had any issues. Instead of taking accountability and honoring the brand’s own one-year warranty policy, the refused to acknowledge the issue as a defect, claimed it was due to "misuse," and only offered to repair it “as a courtesy.” A repair does not restore the quality of a product that failed after two uses — and a selling premium gear should know better. What made this even worse is that I had to deal with the whole thing during my holiday, and now that I'm no longer in Portugal, the is essentially telling me they’ll either repair it or return it to the store — knowing I can't pick it up. Zero effort to find a fair solution. Customer service has been dismissive and completely unhelpful. For a that sells high-end equipment, this kind of treatment is incredibly unprofessional. If you're looking for quality gear and decent after-sales support, I’d recommend shopping elsewhere. Doesnt even deserve one star.
