Booked here for Valentine's. I should have known what to expect as it was the only place with any availability on late booking (Thursday) I had the Mac and cheese which was so dry I gave up. We also had a burger which wasn't with a lot of the on the plate. The servers were extremely young and obviously not very experienced. We waited a long between courses and almost gave up on getting more drinks! We did give up waiting for the bill and could quite easily have walked out without paying because we were basically ignored. We won't be returning. The Queens at Horton is a fantastic pub with accommodation. It's extremely popular with a garden looking out over the farmland. place to eat your in the sun. Friendly staff. My room was serviced daily which was nice, nights sleep with very little noise in a soft bed with high quality linen. Shower was really with a large powerful head and soft towels to dry off with toiletries if needed. Would recommend The Queens at Horton to anyone wishing to drink, eat or sleep or all three! Disappointed!! Starters, fish cake came out very greasy and had a big hole where all the filling had escaped. (Not sure why the chef still served this). We had to wait for another one to be cooked and served whilst other starters went cold and hard. Mains, Chicken Skewers were hard and dry and gammon had been under the hot plate too long. Sweets, crème brûlée was disappointing no crunch to the top and banana was not slightly caramelised. The smoores was hard, missing cream, marshmallows hadn’t been toasted they were hard almost like straight from a packet. All the ice cream served with the sweets had crunchy bits of ice in them, as if they haven’t been stored in the freezer correctly. Very disappointing, we have been a lot over the last 10 years,not sure what’s happened it may have just been a one off, but a bill of £150 for something that was below average. We went for a family on a Saturday evening, the pub was very busy, the was great, Pork Belly, that was cooked perfectly and served with black pudding mash and carrots with a cider sauce all very tastey and portion sizes. Others in our party had steak which they throughly enjoyed. All in all a meal, and the were very friendly and helpfull, the only critisim that l have is the pub itself, it is quite tatty and run down, the tables chairs and decor dont do the food justice. The food at The Queens at Horton was great. I had the Fish and Chips and it was very enjoyable. The fish was really high quality and had a golden crispy batter and tasted delicious. The portion size was really too. Please give our compliments to the chef. And we look forward to going back there again soon. The 1st we had a at the Queens was absolutely amazing was gorgeous. The next we were unaware they only had the Christmas menu not I had pie pastry was dry veg 1 french bean a sprout and a bit of cold cabbage the chips however were we were looking forward to the we had last so we were extremely disappointed So very disappointed. What a real shame. The Sunday was always a reasonable price and quality. I don’t mind a price increase if it’s worth it. It wasn’t!! I had to order another bowl of vegetables as one small bowl between three was not enough - given price increase and the fact that a Yorkshire pudding on a standard Sunday comes with it, was an additional £1.00 😳. The desserts are £7.50 each and the crumble was the size of a brûlée. Totally disappointing and I’m afraid to say I cannot recommend a Sunday at this venue. I also had to leave the table to order additional drinks throughout our meal. I’m afraid the price increase didn’t warrant the standard, size and lack of service during our visit. Had sunday i had beef had to have a saw to cut it and new teeth, husband had pie had to have a wrench to take the top off was like a brick, Mash veg gravy but not the main part of the complained got charged full price no discount offered We booked here for my nieces 21st birthday and we had the best time! The space was large enough to fit 20 of us for dinner and everyone enjoyed their food. The were incredibly accommodating and food and drinks are reasonably priced. We had a wonderful day and will definitely be coming again! The perfect Sunday lunch, every and value too. staff, attentive but not over-bearing. Always a relaxed atmosphere and a building and decor. Can't recommend enough. Went there after a family day out, my dad’s steak pie was tasteless, my sister couldn’t eat her burger and my chicken was raw, I complained about it, and the waiter came back and said it supposed to look pink because of the tandoori sauce, I agree with this but it was completely raw in the middle, hadn’t even turned pink. Got a second meal, and they charged us for the second one, and it was bland, I wouldn’t recommend this place. We visited over the bank holiday as a family — myself, my husband, my father-in-law, and our newborn — looking forward to enjoying a relaxed in the sunshine. We chose to sit outside under the covered area to keep the baby shaded, as only one table outside had an umbrella (and it was already taken). Unfortunately, towards the end of our main course, a gentleman came outside and began smoking right next to us and our newborn. My husband politely asked if he would mind moving one table along, just to give the baby some space. Instead of accommodating such a reasonable request, he became verbally abusive, insisting that he could sit wherever he liked as a regular. Another diner even stepped in to agree with us, but the situation escalated into a heated argument between the smokers. We were so uncomfortable that we our drinks, the rest of our mains, and skipped dessert altogether. I raised this with a member (who I believe was the manager) and was told that customers are allowed to smoke at any outside table, including under the shelter, and that in winter smokers tend to congregate there. While he said he’d have a word with the man, it us feeling that families — and particularly those with small children — are without protection. Our suggestions: • Provide more shaded seating options (umbrellas or non-smoking covered areas). • Consider designating a separate sheltered section for smokers to avoid conflicts like this. • Make signage clear so guests know where smoking is permitted. As it stands, we sadly won’t be returning. It didn’t feel baby-friendly, and it seemed that regulars were given priority over the comfort of other guests. A shame, as the food itself was — but the atmosphere us walking away upset rather than welcomed. Had Sunday today, the gravy was awful and poured all over my lunch, which then tainted everything on the plate with the overpowering flavour and smell of herbs, no resemblance to beef gravy at all. I didn’t complain as I was a guest in the party and not paying the bill. When the plates were collected I did make reference to the food being very bad in my opinion, hence why I had not eaten it, the bill was presented for 5 Sunday lunches, with an added surcharge of £13.10, “ optional” was written in pen, no reduction for the I had not eaten and the cheek to ask for a tip. I requested the bill payer did not include a tip, as it seemed the waitress would speak to the manager, no apology for me not enjoying or eating my food or explanation was offered. I will not be using The Queens at Horton again. staff, But the food a lot to be desired, potatoes and cabbage were undercooked.Pork crackling was soft and chewy, and everything was lukewarm. Very disappointed. Won’t be back Stayed here overnight on a trip to Harper Adams University. Very welcoming staff, clean room and delicious supper. Plenty of choice for breakfast, smashing full English. Overall, a place to stay. Will book again. I cannot comment on rooms as we did not stay the night. However the food is awful. I attended here for an engagement party, the food provided was clearly purchased from a nearby shop and simply heated up. I had the chicken waffles with hot honey as my main, I feel there would have been more moisture if I was chewing on a well used flip-flop, in addition to this these were the same kind of waffles that you can buy in a multipack for a few quid, the chicken was nothing special but at least it was edible, and I can only assume there is a global shortage of hot honey as they provided approximately 1 tablespoon of this on the edge of the plate; there wasn't even enough to dip food in. Bearing in mind every item of food I received and others near me received appeared to be low quality and purchased cheaply at local shops, the food was not cheap in the slightest, the mains cost around £18 a piece, the cost around £65 for two people. The most ridiculous part was that a friend of mine who ordered the lemon tart had to wait 35 minutes longer than everyone else getting deserts, and when this eventually arrived it looked as though it had just been purchased from the supermarket. My partner had a chicken tikka masala, however described the curry itself to taste watered down, and felt their starter chicken was not fresh and had been dipped in lemon juice which gave it an overpowering citrus flavour. Regarding the service, food needed to be ordered 2-3 weeks in advance, but servers did not seem to know how many of each item was needed, and guests needed to take over handing out the food to the correct people.
