Fabulous woodland area beside Lough Gowna, in County Longford. The starts beside the gaelic football pitch and children's play area, so park your car here. Take the gravel path that runs beside the gaelic pitch and after about 10 minutes you'll come to a large notice board with a map of the different routes through the woods. I'd recommend that you take a photo of the map to help you as you through the woods. You'll come across the remains of a walled garden, a rath and paths that take you down to Lough Gowna. Everywhere is well signposted and it's easy to spend 2 hours walking around the different routes. Went for a with my daughter to do something different for the day !! Absolutely gorgeous, the walks are amazing here, so much to see , fab little playground for the kids aswell. Real family vibe about the place and the most amazing view point over the lakes. Not really worth visiting. After the storm, many trees were knocked down, and although some paths are still passable, there isn’t much scenery left to enjoy. It feels unsafe, as if more trees could still fall. They’ve only just started clearing the forest, and soon it will probably be just an open field. Great for walks with the family or for trail runs. Lovely scenery, the ruins, the old boat and the lake view. The trail has been recently done. Safe and well maintained. Even in rainy days the trail is good to go, as it’s for most part under the trees, so you don’t get wet. On the weekends there is a coffee trailer open from 10am, they sell coffee and some treats. Great through the woods with a view out over Lough gowna. Picnic tables and benches so great place to have picnic or the dog. Some damage from the storm this year which is really sad to see but still great spot to go for one of best forests in Midlands, ideal for dog walks. not too crowded, can go off path and explore a little bit. the lake nearby makes it perfect and the old ruins are very charming. Walking or cycling through nature, with interesting bridges and paths leading to a beautiful lake, is a great way to relax and breathe. Lovely place for a walk. Three different walks colour coded depending on how fit you are lovely lake area and picnic benches also a coffee van at main entrance. Nice wild place with a few different walking trails. There is a few picnic benches dotted about for a picnic in a forest setting. Oh my god. After long time seen kind of walking track. Just amazed coffee @ entrance, play area, rest/ picnic area in middle and at end water where you can see sun set while your feet in water Great forest and playground! Easy to access.
