The site of one of the largest and most important Celtic cities in Europe, located in Bavaria. Once a major economic and political hub, its advanced urban planning included minting coins. The Celtic and Roman on-site displays incredible finds from the extensive excavations. Very nicely presented in display cases and open rooms, with animated movies. Large halls, good explanations, interesting artefacts. You are can even play dress up as a Roman. It could be a nice but part of it is closed so you see not much for a lot of money. really lovelly place to go. some ancient history and wonderfull picknickplace at the riverside. of one of Germany's most important archaeological sites. The Iron Age town of Manching was enormous, covering 360 hectares and enclosed by a massive 'murus Gallicus' wall 7km perimeter. Much of the site has been destroyed by an airport in the 1930s and the present town but archaeological excavations have revealed the outlines of buildings, workshops and temples in parts of the site. This was one of the most important towns in northern Europe in the last four centuries BC. The exhibition is beautifully set out but more as an art than an as an interpretation of the fascinating archaeology. Good models though. Also the well preserved remains of two Roman patrol boats. Worth visiting the ramparts of Iron Age Manching too. Excellent museum. Very nice collection. No English plaques but you do get an audio guide, which provides very good information. The is also special because of the great number and quality of reconstructed items, not just original remains. You can get a great sense of the life in ancient times. The store is also well-supplied, though I wish for more English books and publications. A very nice small covering Celtic and Roman history in this area. Beautiful presentation, friendly staff, and they have audio guides in English. Excellent Museum! Always take our friends and family when they visit. The exhibition hall is a bit more sparse than the size of the building implies. Apparently one of the old central draws (a gold treasure hoard) was stolen a few years back too. Nevertheless, I think this had informative content and some interesting local artefacts. The audio guide is worth it and helped contextualize many pieces. It is harder to find a with a Celtic focus than a Roman one; if you are particularly interested in Celts this will impress, while if you were looking forward to Roman history this may not be so stand-out. Had fun, I liked the temporary exposition on the romans, they had an audio guide for english speakers, which was easy to use.
