Still nice for Castle lovers A beautiful hilltop fortress. Not a lot left but the view of Avô is 360 degrees and stunning. It would be nice if there was some information there regarding the castle. The walk up to top is wonderful. It's easy, (but not wheelchair accessible) but the wonderful part is walking through the alleyways, past all the houses nestled together to form the little community. Looking at the patchwork of roofs and gardens is a delight and worth the visit. The valley is beautiful and seeing all the terraces green and cleared of brambles, ready for planting this years crops is breathtaking. Definitely worth the if you are in the area. We didn't the river beach because it was cold but we imagine on a hot summer day they will be lovely. So a to the castle early in the day before it's hot would be a great addition to the river beach visit. There is no charge to go up, and the local folks are friendly and will help you if you get lost on your way up to the castle. Beautiful place and very kind people there.. Old castle in the middle of a village. Mostly destroyed but the village is great place to visit. Um bocadinho de história perdida no meio da vila de Avô. O castelo em si, encontra-se em ruínas, tendo sido demolido em grande parte no século XIX. Aparentemente iria ter uma obra de requalificação em 98, mas não dá para ter a certeza se terá sido concluída. À parte disso, é de acesso livre e tem uma vista fenomenal sobre a praia fluvial. Um bom ponto a visitar caso se esteja pela zona. O novo baloiço acaba por ser um toque engraçado pois é igual ao que se encontra mais abaixo na praia fluvial.
