Today Säby gård is a protected heritage site (byggnadsminne) since 1983. It now houses the Säby Waldorf-förskola (Waldorf preschool) and lies in the middle of the Järvafältet nature reserve. But this place is known for more than its architecture. There’s a chilling story — “The Demon of Säby gård.” Late 19th century, a small cottage called Fiskartorpet by the lake Säbysjön. A family lived there peacefully until their five-year-old daughter began waking at night to strange rustling and clicking sounds. Her mother thought it was just dreams — until morning came and the girl’s face showed marks, as if someone had slapped her. A priest (präst [prɛst]) was called in to cleanse the house, but things only got worse. The child grew weaker, stopped eating, and soon began to fade away. The family fled, leaving the cottage behind. Since then, locals whisper that at night near Fiskartorpet you can still hear soft footsteps and a child’s cry.
