Gåseborg fornborg is a probably 1,500-year-old ancient fort located along the water between Mälaren and Jakobsberg, in Viksjö, Järfälla municipality in Stockholm county. The ancient castle, which is one of Mälardalen's most impressive of its kind, is located within the Görväln nature reserve. The ruins are not very spectacular, but it’s still worth a visit because of the incredible view from the top. Some good beaches and barbecue sites are there as well. An observation tower from about the year 800 - 1200 years ago - which checked on the boat traffic on the Lake Mälaren. It is one of the highest points in the area, with spectacular views. You can cycle or walk on well maintained paths. It is on th route, if you follow the cycle path around the Lake Mälaren. There are boxes with dry firewood, which you can take to the fireplaces below and at the top of Gåseberg. Bring your food and prepare it there. Very few people walk up to this place. Our favorite spot Väldigt vacker plats att besöka. Great viewpoint. I recommend going here to watch the sunset which is straight ahead, you will catch a beautiful sight with beautiful colors over the archipelago. It is a 15 to 30 minutes walk from the parking depending on how fast you're going. The paths are well marked with signage. Really nice place for a walk, with open oak forests in some areas, views of the lake as you walk and then the gorgeous view from the Gåseborg too.
