It is the ossuary of 7000 Italian soldiers who fell in the First World War on the Isonzo Front. You can walk till here, but you can also reach the top by car. It is beautiful view of the ossuary and all the time a truly strange feeling in the face of all horrors that have taken place in history. From here you have a beautiful view of the river Soca and Kobarid. Tranquil place with breathtaking views It's locked so you can't wander inside. However, from what you can see it's a very simple plain sanctuary. I wouldn't make a big deal out of putting this on your agenda. The memorial and the church together are a nice hour, but that's about it. Maybe 30 minutes We drove all the way up to with the car and parked it there. There was more than enough space but be careful when you come across another car. The setting is impressive with a view over the valley as well as the names of Italian soldiers who died during World War I. The church itself was small and you can't really enter it as the roof was damaged during a storm. A nice little detour on the way down the Julian Alps. To remind ourselves of our past. Lovely 16.century church on top of the Italian Charnel House, Kobarid. In the middle altar picture you can spot Saint Anthony with a child. On his left you can see the archangel Uriel holding a book. On the right side is a depiction of archangel Gabriel holding a lily. Impressing and monumental memorial. People should understand and pay respect (I’ve experienced people shouting and drinking there) A beautiful way to commemorate the fallen soldiers. Also very accessible, by foot or by car.
