A Perfect Escape Into Nature I've been to Wyedean & Adventure three times now, and every visit has been an absolute joy. If you love peace, quiet, and connecting with nature, this place is a true hidden gem. The setting is beautiful, calm, and completely unspoiled — perfect for taking a break from the hustle of daily life. The staff are fantastic: super friendly, accommodating, and incredibly knowledgeable. You can tell they really care about what they do and about making sure everyone has a safe and memorable experience. Each trip has been a brilliant mental health reset for me, and I’ll certainly be coming back again. Highly recommend to anyone looking to unwind and enjoy the outdoors. We booked 2x 3-person canoes for the 9 mile 1/2 day trip from Kerne bridge to Symonds Yat, with 2x decently fit adults and 1x kid per canoe. We booked for 11:15am and added the extra time, taking us to 4:30pm dropoff. In the end, even with lunch and 1x or two extra stops to take in the view of Symonds Yat rock, we still had an hour left, so in terms of they've played it safe (or we were over-eager with the paddling!), which we were all fine with. After 4-5hours paddling, you'll be suitably tired. All ran very smoothly from organizational perspective. Clear instructions and helpful, friendly staff. River was a bit low thanks to unseasonably low rainfall so there were one or two areas you could get stuck if you didn't pay close attention, but the water was so low it's easy to push yourself off. All in all an excellent experience; I've done a fair few recreational canoe/kayak trips and this was right up there; happy to recommend to anyone! (P.S. if you get near to the end and have an hour or more left to kill, there's a pub and a gin cafe both on the right-hand bank, and within a short paddle back to base, and also a pub right next to the return point after you drop the canoes off ;) A Perfect Day on the Wye - Couldn’t Recommend More Highly My wife, our 13-year-old son, and I booked the Half Day Hire from Kerne Bridge to Symonds Yat East - and it turned out to be a truly fantastic experience from start to finish. Booking in advance was smooth, and everything on the day ran like clockwork. The map provided was spot-on, the check-in process was seamless, and we were warmly greeted by the ever-friendly Rachele. We were quickly kitted out with paddles, life jackets, and a waterproof blue barrel that neatly held our three packed rucksacks - such a simple but clever touch. Before setting off, we received a clear and professional safety briefing, followed by a lift to the launch point. The team were not only helpful but genuinely thoughtful - even helping to carry our down to the water for us. And then we were off! The weather was glorious, and the route was stunning - a perfect blend of peaceful stretches and scenic vistas. I’ll admit I’m no expert, but ours felt stable, comfortable, and glided through the water like an otter (which, frankly, is all I could hope for!). Nine miles later, with pleasantly aching arms, we were met by staff member Luke and pulled ashore smiling - and already talking about our next trip. Next time, we’ll likely go for the full-day adventure. In terms of what makes a great brand and a truly memorable experience, Wyedean & Adventure Centre absolutely nails it: friendly, professional, and genuinely helpful throughout. What more could you want? Thank you for a brilliant day. Matthew, Helen, and Luke May 2025 3 days canoeing from Hereford to Symonds Yat. Absolutely brilliant, friendly staff, well organised, lovely scenery, very peaceful and relaxing. Camping at Hoarwithy and the white lion. Loved it. July 2025 Two Old Men in a Boat In mid may two old men to Wyedean they went, Three days canoeing from Hereford to Symonds Yat they spent, Camping on the bank sampling of the local brew The two adventurers, new to a got in quite a stew, Paddling by day, talking of former glories and other rubbish by night, The challenge went up, "1 day", was it possible did they have the might. And so the plan was hatched they would return to Canoes Wyedean, of that they were sure from Hereford to Symmonds Yat in 1 day they were very keen. Five weeks later - Two old men in boat This is what they wrote, An early start thanks to Ian of Wyedean C, a lovely fellow, But made them part far to early from their pillow. 7am at Hereford bridge two old men in boat, Set off paddling, Wyedean bound no need for a coat The weather was warm the was low There were times they wished for a tow. They paddled and paddled ever closer came Symmonds Yat, Yet still so far, - the joys of seeing the salmon leap almost right into their and landing at their feet. The Peregrines in the air, soaring and dancing with the kites These natural beautiful, mighty, glorious sites. To be treasured and recounted or recalled in quieter days Time in nature, on our doorstep, there are no better ways. Just before five pm two old men at Wyedean canoes arrived Elated, exhausted, aching and joyfull, - very beer deprived 9 hours and 49 minutes, two old men in a boat This is what they wrote From Hereford to Symonds Yat They paddled all the way as they sat. Their thanks to Wydean Canoes and all of the team They really were the very best, quite supreme it was not possible said others Wyedean - The adventure centre, not our mothers Gave support safety first, organized all and made the plan The rest was down to - two old men in boat – and the waters that ran. Great day out - and great service. Weather was brill. It's a long (half) day, so make sure you pack water. Younger children may struggle. 9 miles doesn't sound far - but it is!!! I booked the 9.25 mile for a family day out on holiday. We had three canoes between 7 of us and a dog. I can honestly say that it rated as the best day of the holiday for all of us. After our safety briefing we were driven just three miles to back down the Wye. The laughs we had along the way! We capsized once but thanks to the briefing we knew what to do and was back on our way weaving across the river, enjoying the wildlife and cows that had come down for a drink! We probably got in the water around 11am (our meet was 10.30) and we had until 3pm to get back (which we took all of!). We had a variety of abilities between us, we us probably being the least fit but enjoyed every minute. I’d highly recommend this day out if you are a bit adventurous, want lots of laughs and create some fabulous memories! X We had a wonderful trip on Thursday last week on the Wye, after the high levels had gone down. So thankful, as it was my 92 year old mother's wish to go canoeing whilst on holiday in the Wye valley. Ian, Rochelle, Jane and Zack all made our experience enjoyable and safe. We had such a special 9 mile row downstream, in two straddled canoes, from Kerne Bridge back to Symonds Yat. Beautiful scenery, blue skies, kingfishers, egret, heron, kites, buzzards, goosanders, mandarin ducks, mallard and fish jumping! Very peaceful and calming along with some energetic rowing! Mum, my two siblings and I all had such a great time, loving telling everyone about the adventure now we are back home. Thanks to the very professional team at Wyedean centre for all you did to support us. We are very grateful. KH Great canoeing from Ross to Symonds Yat. Really friendly and well organised. Cannot fault the service and would happily recommend. Its a beautiful part of the the River, not too taxing or technical. Lovely picnic spot just before the bend of the before Symonds Yat Rock.
