Every aspect of this cafe is excellent. I had an outstanding dessert that I have no idea what it’s called. It was something new. The cappuccino was very good too. The seating area is like a garden on the shore. Absolutely gorgeous! The service is excellent. I honestly was stunned by the beauty of the front female staff! This is an extra bonus for coming here! Highly recommended! Delicious princess cake, sandwiches & drinks but the view is unbeatable. Make a beeline for this cafe as soon as your boat docks at Vaxholms so you can get a nice table. Make sure to go indoors so you see the immense pastry table. They have vegetarian cheese sandwiches but these are open-faced sandwiches so they only have one slice of bread. Lots of other options as well. Vaxholms Hembygdsgårds Cafe is a delightful spot that serves up some truly excellent Swedish classics. I had the traditional Swedish meatballs, and they were incredibly flavorful and perfectly cooked. The meal was a real treat and a great example of classic Swedish comfort food done right. One of the highlights of the cafe is the impressive selection of desserts. It was hard to choose with so many delicious options, but every dessert I tried was absolutely fantastic. If you have a sweet tooth, you won't be disappointed here. Overall, the cafe offers a wonderful dining experience with its tasty food and extensive dessert menu. It's a must-visit if you're in the area and looking for a delicious and authentic Swedish meal Charming Heritage Spot This traditional café at Vaxholm’s heritage museum offers authentic Swedish fika in a genuinely atmospheric setting. The historic wooden buildings and period interiors create the perfect backdrop for classic Swedish coffee culture – think strong coffee, cardamom buns, and unhurried conversation. The homemade cakes and traditional pastries are excellent, served on vintage china that matches the old-world charm. Staff embrace the slower pace of island life, and the garden seating (when weather permits) feels like stepping into a Swedish storybook. What makes it special is the authentic local atmosphere – this isn’t tourist theater but a real piece of Vaxholm’s cultural heritage that locals genuinely use and cherish. The museum setting adds educational value without feeling forced. Can get busy during peak summer season, and service moves at a deliberately relaxed Swedish pace that might test impatient visitors. Worth it? Absolutely, especially if you’re exploring Vaxholm’s heritage sites. Perfect embodiment of Swedish café culture. Heard good things about this cafe before and it really lived up to the expectations! The location is lovely by the water and there is plenty of seating. The staff are friendly and helpful explaining which pastries are what. And the pastries themselves are 10/10 which such good taste and authenticity! Highly recommend this place to come with friends and family to enjoy some classic Swedish “fika” 🇸🇪 Fantastic place for coffee and cake. Everything was such a delight. Charming decor, delicious cakes, spotlessly clean and with super friendly, lovely staff. We got there early so didn’t have to wait and had a choice of tables, but I expect it gets busy. A real treat for Vaxholm. Vaxholms Hembygdsgårds Café is absolutely charming! The location by the water is beautiful and relaxing, perfect for enjoying a coffee or meal with a view. The cakes and pastries are homemade, fresh, and delicious—especially the famous cakes, which are worth the trip alone. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, with friendly staff that make you feel right at home. A must-visit when in Vaxholm! This café is absolutely beautiful, both indoors and outdoors. However, everything depends on the weather – if it’s rainy or windy, sitting outside isn’t really possible. Most of the service is self-service, but some dishes are brought directly to your table. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and the desserts are delicious. (If you’re afraid of birds, I wouldn’t recommend sitting outdoors.)
