As tours of wineries go, this is brilliant. Surprising store of beautiful old horse-drawn as a bonus. We found 2 bottles of we loved and bought. This estate is a staggering 7,000 plus acres and has been owned by the same family since shorty after WW2. The family is one of the wealthiest in Portugal. This property was their summer estate where they groomed horses for a long time before the current generation decided to turn it into a winery. We arrived by car and found ample parking. We had a wonderful private of the estate. Our guide was knowledgeable and allowed us to not only explore the facility to be be educated into the process of turning grapes into wine. We walked from the to the fermenting facility which from a distance looked like old buildings but were in fact newer building made to look old. Inside we wondered along the gantries and looked down on the large stainless steel vats where the grapes are crushed and the starts its first fermenting in large stainless steel tanks. We then explored the storage where a certain amount of destined for a vintage label are stored in oak barrels. We were allowed to have a peek into the bottling where modern machinery fills and labels the bottles. The fields are labeled with Portuguese Ceramic tile signs that identify the type of grape grown there. Heading back to the we passed the private residence of the family which is still in use today. Along the way we popped into a building which forms the museum of antique collected over the years by the original owner of the property. for the 1700 look as they did in the period. They have not been rebuild or reupholstered. The collection is very interesting even if your not into carriages. Just the array of the transportation of the pre-automobile era over the centuries is fascinating. We spent some time in front of a unique and rather large carriage that was once owned by the famous car designer Bugatti himself. From the museum we moved on to the tasting. The comes with a fee depending on what you want to taste. In the end we discovered that the we liked is only $6 more at home in North America as the price the was charging. This was surprising and frankly, disappointing. One would expect the price to far less than the full retail half a world away. In the end we did not buy any wine. However, we decided to try a bottle of their champagne or Spumante as they call it because the can not use the Champagne name. We brought it home and look forward to opening it. The property also has a restaurant which requires a reservation in advance. If your in the area, its worth a tour. Monte da Ravasqueira is a beautiful in the heart of Alentejo, just over an hour from Lisbon. The place is surrounded by vineyards, olive trees, and stunning countryside, with a perfect mix of traditional Alentejo charm and modern style. The guided takes you through the vineyards, the winery, and the fascinating Carriage Museum, which has an amazing collection of historic carriages. The is excellent, with knowledgeable staff who explain everything in a friendly way, and the wines themselves are truly worth the visit. It’s peaceful, scenic, and a great spot to relax, learn, and enjoy some of the best wines in the region. The estate is beautiful — and impressive! We toured Monte da Ravasqueira in February, so the grapes weren’t growing yet. The vineyards stretch out in all directions and we were led through them to the processing plant, which itself was impressively large. Production wasn’t taking place since it was Sunday, but it was still interesting to see. We also visited the on-site carriage museum, with horse-drawn dating back to the 18th Century. I never thought I’d need to see that, but am surprisingly glad I did! And, finally, we did a of six of their excellent (and affordable) wines. A wonderfully relaxed with old and a vineyard finishing with a tasting. The lovely multilingual lady running the (whose name I missed unfortunately) was suitably informed on all aspects that I expressed curiosity for. She also recommended the correct restaurants in Arraiolos. I visited in February, so it was quiet and the vineyard itself had no leaves, but it was still very worthwhile. Teresa, our guide for the was informative, knowledgeable, nice and – when we told her we did not have a car – drove us in her car (weather was awful for walking). Worth a visit! Muito bem atendidos nas provas e visita Os vinhos eram agradáveis e bem elaborados, no entanto a experiência, no geral, não correspondeu às expectativas em termos de valor. O preço foi de 65 € por pessoa para uma prova de quatro vinhos, cuja média de preço no mercado ronda os 20 cada. Pelo valor pago, esperava uma seleção mais diferenciada ou premium. Além disso, a experiência poderia ser mais envolvente. Um pequeno passeio pela vinha ou uma explicação mais aprofundada sobre o terroir e o processo de produção tornariam a visita muito mais interessante e completa. No one was here... totally empty. We called and looked at the and gift shop. nothing was open Saturday at 2pm. Visita a este produtor, com provas dos seus excelentes vilnhos. Como extra, um pequeno mas lindíssimo museu de coches aguardava a nossa visita. O nosso anfitrião foi muito bom nas suas explicações e condução da visita. Recomendo a compra de vinhso na loja. Well versed staff who explained the history of the winery, along with the of the carriages. Excellent to follow, with the opportunity to purchase wines/port/olive oil/honey before you leave. Explanations of the wines/grapes were amazing and made the day worthwhile. It should be noted that if you arrive by taxi, then arrangements should be made beforehand for collection...as this can be tricky. Overall a 5-star (if not higher) experience.
