A group of six of us stayed in 48 at Piperdam. We paid just over £1500 for a long weekend (3 nights). The was in a very poor state. If we'd paid £500 I would have just shrugged but at three times that, we expected excellent. When we first walked in there was a strong drain smell, so not a good start. It was mainly noticeable in the downstairs bedrooms. Not overpowering but certainly unpleasant. A quick tour of the revealed lots of scruffy tired areas. The stair gate wouldn't lock. We had a young child in our group so this was annoying. We had a broken light switch, lots of chipped laminate on doors and worktops, a disgusting soap dish, bedside lamps with no sockets nearby so purely for decoration, broken cupboard door hinge, and so on. This might seem picky to some but you'd expect that from a bargain basement butlins or an old tired static caravan. Not a £500+ per night lodge Finally the restaurant wasn't great. None of us were impressed by the food. It was OK at best. Two of us had the same pasta dish and one had a nice creamy sauce while the other was oily and thin. Someone in kitchen must have been asleep. The dish was replaced when we raised the issue with the waitress so it was ok in the end but certainly not impressive. So extremely disappointed with our stay and will never be going back. Had a lovely stay here, very relaxing, nice pool and hot tub in was awesome. Staff great and friendly. Only reason for my missing star is that the kids soft pay isn't included in the price. Think anyone staying there with kids this should be included in the price. But that aside an excellent stay and we will be back. Tired and Filthy lodge. Avoid. I visited Piperdam with family for the first time in October 2025. I was extremely disappointed, the was filthy and the carpets and sofas all stained and dirty. There was debris next to the beds and under radiators, including crisps, dead wasps and general hair and mess. Reception did send housekeeping staff when I complained about the mess but they simply argued they had hoovered twice….. which was clearly untrue. One of the bedrooms smelled strongly of cannabis, I was travelling with young children, so not ideal. Again housekeeping told me I was mistaking the smell for bleach, despite my guarantees that I knew the difference between those smells! I’ve never seen carpet stains like this anywhere, it really was nothing short of disgusting. I am relieved my children were not crawling yet as there is no way I could even have put them down anywhere due to the filth. The itself was generally really tired with various things broken. We had no heating for the entire time we stayed there as they were unable to fix the heating despite numerous complaints about this, they gave us oil heaters but this defeated the purpose of booking a with a washing machine etc as we weren’t able to dry any clothes for the babies. We also had no hot water the first night either and were told this was because they’d filled the hot tub!!! Which we were also told wasn’t usable until the second day!! I asked to be moved but they offered me a smaller which wouldn’t have worked for the number of adults and children in my booking, claiming that was all they had available, despite my stay being a midweek stay. My advice would be to choose somewhere else to go as this isn’t a 2 star never mind a 4.
