Closed when I arrived no notice of why it's closed will no go back again Mary is the best chef ever. Group of us dined today in the Monageer Tavern co Wexford and what a gem of an establishment. The bar is both a bar and museum reminiscent of 1916 and the years that followed, with beautiful hand painted portraits adorned on the walls of key Irish Figures. The food is excellent huge portions and extremely value for money . Dinner and Dessert are served on the menu and there is a option for both . Booking is a must as it's not a large premises. Love everything about the place, food, very tasty and amount of food for a price. All the staff are very friendly. Highly recommend. By far the best place to eat at anytime if the day. Any day if the week. Fantastic food. Friendly staff. Absolute gem of a place. Have been a few times the past few weeks and certainly will be visiting again and again . Male staff member explained to me what a reserved meant, despite us having sat at unreserved. Which I was food wasn't usually served at. He pretended to check with someone if another could be found but really just didn't like non locals there. Won't ever darken its door again. Non locals should avoid. Also suspect many fake reviews being put up for the place. Needs to be policed. I will die of hunger before eating here again! Food was horrible (worst steak I ever had) and the only thing worse then food is the staff. Very rude and “smart”, can’t take a critique even though we did not ask for any discounts and paid the full price. Would not reccomend to a worst enemy! I brought my family here and this girl about my sons age would only listen to him and then proceeded to ask him to go to the bathroom with her Really bad If I could give this place zero stars I would, its diabolical. I came to the restaurant as I saw all of the 5 star reviews on here about how the place is. However my experience was by far the worst experience ive ever come across. From the begining we walked into the place we were met by what I can only describe as a walking karen that had to serve us. She asked us if she could help but not in any manner that would make you feel welcome I asked if she would have a for 4 me my partner and my 2 kids. She said “We tell people they should make a reservation” in a tone that didnt seem very pleased, im not local I explained to her and she said she would check to see what she could do. She allowed us to sit down in a spot that clearly said reserved on it which didnt make sense. When she approached the my children were putting the butter sachets into a little tub and counting them not doing any harm. She immediately rounded up the butters and basically confiscated it from the like ai was in school. I should have known then to leave but I tried to give this woman the benefit of my doubt. When she approached to take our order i asked for our drinks and waited a long pause to let her write down 4 drinks i then asked if we could have 2x lasagnas and to which she bruntly me to wait, im not being funny I served as a waitress for many years and never would have talked to anyone in that manner. We were brought out the food which I can only describe as being reheated from frozen vile food. The lasagne didnt have any pasta I couldnt believe it i literally deconstructed one of the lasagnes and it was mince with bechmel sauce and cheese. I was mortified to say anything until I decided that €55 for mince meet and a steak that was as dry and flavourless wasnt right. I went up to the bar to express my complaints I wasnt angry or anything but tried to explain the situation as it was not a lasagne. The woman came out and said to me “you me everything was alright” I explained I did as I was embarrassed to have to say that theres no pasta in the pasta dish. She then went down to the and gaslighted me into believing the white bechmel sauce was pasta. She then took it away and still tried to tell me I was wrong, then even tried to make me feel uncomfortable by asking me did I want her to bring the lasagne back out to prove to me. She gaslighted me the whole process and me “well we wont be knocking anything from the bill” i her I would pay the bill but that it was the worst experience ive ever had in any restaurant and she didnt care one bit. As I was leaving to gather my things she me to have a nice day but only to be condescending. Its clear from the moment you go in that its very local and you can tell that they ask people to put out these reviews for the business. Please avoid at all costs.
