Very big, old-school hut, at the slopes of mighty Botev Mountain, which is the best asset of this place, as the panorama from here is astonishing. It can host many people in 2-3 persons rooms, with a common bath, condition being close to medium. In terms of bar and kitchen you have plenty of options and the Bulgarian cuisine won't disappoint you here (my advice: try the wild mushrooms soup/chorba). I will definitely want to come back and spend a few days here. Magnificent view to Botev peak and the entire northern Djendem. The hut has changed a lot since my first visit in 2013 and now seems much better. The service in the restaurant has a bit weird organization but it works OK. I would like to see some improvements in the way orders are taken. Food tastes OK, and with fair prices. Cannot tell much about the rooms and accommodation, last time I was there was over ten years ago, and it was OK back then First and foremost - the view is unforgettable. Rooms were warm, cleanliness leaving a bit to be desired, but normal for Bulgarian huts. Baths and toilets were recently nicely renovated. Food variety was great, including vegetarian options. We only been to the cafeteria. The prices are very low and the quality good, we had a nice tea and a coffee. Plenty of food choices for a cabin in the mountains. The place itself doesn't look very nice (no investments made). There are no trash bins. The view from there is spectacular. Lovely views from the lodge! It's a fairly easy climb from the parking below the mountain to the lodge itself, maybe an hour/hour and a half of climbing, depending on fitness. It is steep at times (and slippery rocks on the climb down), so bring proper mountain shoes and avoid sneakers if possible. The food is great, they have freshly prepared meals every day (salad, soups, main dishes and dessert). Rooms were ok, only the door didn't close properly and no locks, so your luggage relies on other people's moral to not get stolen. Toilets are shared, typical lodge style. The view from the front balcony is simply gorgeous, where you can have your food and drinks or do some work with the laptop. The backyard has lounge chairs and a fire pit, but we didn't see them in use. The first floor of the lodge is renovated with modern furniture and turned into a large reading room. There are armchairs next to the window, where you can read and enjoy the view. There was also a piano, not sure it can be played or just for decor, but it does make the space even cozier. Overall, had a great time there over 3 days. The hut is quite large and probably gets a lot busier on the weekends, but we visited during the week and it was pretty empty. The views on each side are spectacular. Restaurant: food was delicious and fresh, and not expensive, not to mention the tea was just 0,50 lev. Staff were all friendly and accommodating, although it was hard to get a hold of people at times as everyone seemed to be coming and going constantly. The younger folks all spoke English. Rooms: we had a 2-bed room which was overall fine. The furniture was old and beds squeaky, but otherwise it was ok. There was running drinking water in the room which was nice. Bathrooms: on our floor, the bathrooms were quite clean and recently renovated. There is hot water by means of an electric boiler, which may run out fast if the hut is full. We did not have issues with that during the week. We planned to stay the night, after he asked us where we are from and we replied Germany the owner greeted us with the worst german fascist greeting including hand sign😭🤮 Including the question what was so bad about him. We left immediately. On top we really don't understand all the great ratings here, the place is not taken care off at all and I am not speaking about simple (we are very used to hiking in different countrys and are aware of what is a realistic expectation about a hut in the mountains) but the whole place was simple totally run down. In addition we saw the neighbour beating his dogs with a stick. We felt incredible uncomfortable in this place. One of my fav place to stay in the mountains. The views from it are stunning.
