Nice little Zoo with free entrance and a surprising number of species. Good for a Sunday walk or as whole day activity in combination with the swimming pool nearby. I am sure that the zoo staff are doing their upmost for the animals wellbeing, however, I found the zoo quite upsetting. Many of the birds looked stressed and were exhibiting behaviour such as pacing up and down in front of their bars. The monkey enclosures are too small for my liking and the lynx looks depressed. Temperatures are currently 34 C, so there's a heat warning in place and many of the animals looked heat stressed. As zoos around the world are starting to see the logic in closing enclosures and rehousing animals in safari parks or larger zoos, I think this small zoo, free though it is, should consider rehousing some of the bigger non-native species and transforming into a didactic zoo for local species only. In that way, the deer and wolf enclosure could be significantly expanded making for happier animals and happier visitors. Exploring the Parc de Saint Pierre comes across with this little zoo 😍 absolutely beautiful to walk around Considering that the average entrance fee to a zoo in France is over €25, this free park is nice for a nice walk or picnic. Bring your own things though, other than a small kiosk beside the entrance of the park and an overpriced restaurant there's nowhere you can buy things.
