A big disappointment. Whoever gave this place 5 stars really needs to see the world outside. Instead of having the walkway where the river is clear - below the dam - it’s only above the dam where the is green and murky. There is too much cement around to detract from the - a typical problem in the former Yugoslavia countries. I also did the hike to the monastery. It was closed and there was human poo I had to navigate past in the trail. Unfortunately the bus timetables are very unreliable and the buses don’t seem to follow it, and taxis will haggle you aggressively while you are walking out or waiting for the bus. Unfortunately at the end the ends abruptly, though opposite the you can’t see anything. Nonetheless the views are worth it! Even better if you can rent a kayak or take a boat. I really wanted to visit this place so much and have planed a there but on my way to the canion we decided to skip it and go to Ohrid. The way was too bad the road wasn't good for a station car maybe you can go there by some SUV car or something like that. I was very disappointed maybe in summer it's better have no idea. Matka is only about 30 minutes by car from Skopje and totally worth the trip. The runs right along the with gorgeous cliff views the whole way. It’s easy, peaceful, and super photogenic. Nikola trail…quite easy for us, it brings you to a church where you can also do a picnic, then you can continue after the church, going down and rescue a point where a will come and pick you up to go on the other part o the lake…to call the boat, you need to ‘ring a bell’ which is actually just a piece of wood and a piece of metal. The ride (just a couple of minutes) was free of charge but we left some money to the driver of course …we loved it there! Although, view will definitely let you enjoy One of the natural highlights in North Macedonia. The is beautifully located close to Skopje. It is, however, quite busy and touristical. Don't expect to be alone: come early to have a good parking spot. Don't drive to the furthesr parking spots because the street will get very narrow and difficult to drive because of all pedestrians. The is very disappointing. It's not really worth the visit. It's best to enjoy the beautiful scenery. We arrived around midday and could still park. When we left, it was a nightmare for those arriving. Everyone was fighting to get a parking space. We drove there and parked in the first bigger parking lot, lots of space at this time of year. We hiked the to the end and back about 3 hours total. It’s a narrow in some areas but relatively easy hike with some ups and downs. Beautiful views along the path. Nothing at the end just to turn around and come back. Toilets €1 Drinks and food available at the restaurant at the beginning of the but pricey. Take snacks/sandwich there are some benches and places to eat with a view on the path. Take your rubbish home with you. Lots of rubbish around which is disappointing of the humans. Great place to visit in Macedonia. You can do a tour that brings you to a cave, get inside and visit it. There is also a to around the but I recommend the boat. It’s a must be there place when the temperatures are high. You can either take a boat, pedal boats, kayak or jump and dive from the rocks like all the locals. Make sure you go where the locals go to be safe when jumping into the water. So crystal clean and refreshing artificial lake. It has been built for the Dam that produce free energy for Skopje. By the side to the Dam you could see an opening where the soldiers camp to protected the Dam during the II World War as it has been a target to be destroyed which has never happened. The is such a nice and cold stop with a fresh air, shaped walls and lake inside. Many of this is still not discovered as some places are very narrow. Very high steps leading to the cave, slippery surface and rails inside due to the of this place and some small uneven stones, so make sure you do not fall while admiring the cave. And use a torch 🔦 to see where you going while your eyes get used to the darkness. Not recommended for elderly or unfit people. I nearly made it 😂 (Only shows how unfit I am at the moment). However the is for everyone who loves being by the water. And after you can enjoy a drink or food at a local restaurant that serve fantastic food. Amazing trail, totally 10 km and 2 hours of hiking. Picturesque views, really worth taking. Afterwards we took the on the lake while visiting a cave, 1 hour total, and the price was 8.50 euro per person. I absolutely highly recommend it! Along the way, there are plenty of parking spots and places to eat. Without lingering too much on the road, we reached the small pier in front of the dam. From there, we took one of the tours that cruise the river. The and scenery are amazing. Many people were swimming on the lower side of the dam. A great place for lovers. You can take a to view the and also go for a hike! One can take a bus from the central bus station in Skopje to Matka (Bus 60). They have a specific time. The ticket will cost only 50 den for one direction. It was around 45 minutes ride. Of course a taxi is also possible it will be 800-1000 den if you can bargain well. Good for a group of 3-4 people who would like to save time. There is a restaurant also, where you can buy drinks and dine. The ride without the was 200 den and if you further, there is another service provider. This guy will charge 400 den including the cave. I have posted the price in the photos. A simple, yet astoundingly beautiful trail! I’d recommend seeing Matka by both foot and as each offers its own unique perspective. It was a great short drive in a gorgeous with natural beauties. Unfortunately wife did not preferer the longer to the caves but I heard they were great as well. Rengeteg lehetőség van kissebb hajókirándásra , de nem érdemes az első helyen megállni , mert nem visznek végig a tavon , fél úton visszafordulnak a hajóval. Van lehetőség evésre és ivásra , bár mi irreálisan drágának találtuk az ételeket a tóparti étteremben. A part mentén lehet túrázni és nagyokat sétálni . A víz a 42 fokos hőség ellenére , nagyon hideg volt , számunkra fürödhetetlen , de velünk ellentétben nagyon sokan megmártóztak . Rengeteg ember volt és kiábrándítóan sok a szemét .. döbbenetesen sok hulladék elszórva a parton , ami nagyon sokat elvesz az idilli táj szépségéből … kuka nagyon kevés … csak itt-ott tele szeméttel Great hike not far from the city, nice and for the more active people you can cross a bridge and go for a hike to San Nikolas church and all the way to the millennium cross. Very nice and scenic canyon. The and walking paths are very clean and enjoyable - excellent for rides or canoeing. The is calm, and the is very clear. I would recommend taking a kayak ride to enjoy the from the water. A very nice and picturesque hiking trail. Always stay in route as there are a lot of steep drops next to the trail. It is also quite long, around 11km to go there and back. Very nice visit. We have been there in February and rent kayaks and paddled up on the river up to the cave. It was our luck that bigger with tourists arrived at same time to the as we did. It was luck because the guide could start generator which provides electricity inside the cave. Otherwise it would be total darkness and we wouldn't see so much. If you are about to rent kayak, take some waterproof clothes or something you cover your legs with otherwise, you will be completely wet how you paddle..(the kayaks are not close as used to be, but open more like canoe but with shorter walls) Byli jsme zde bohužel za špatného počasí, ale i něm má kaňon své kouzlo. Od parkoviště je to kousek k lodičkám, na kterých se svezete až k jeskyni. Jeskyně není velká, ale je to hezké místo. A zpět opět na lodičce, nebo se necháte převézt na druhý břeh a můžete jít po úzké pěšině pěšky. V místě je restaurace, kterou bych určitě doporučila. I took bus number 4 from the city centre l and the change to number 12 in Skopje Mall bus stop. Bus 12 can get you to Shishevo, which is where the starts. Note: there is a card to use the public transport or an app called Skopje App. I didn't use it because I only travel by bus to the and I paid with cash to the driver(in bus number 12 they didn't take my cash tho) but number 4 yes ( I got inspected so make sure you have your ticket with you). You can pay cheaper price for tickets in the app and only you can pay for 10 rides minimum, but the price is fair. Enjoy the is beautiful! The Matka is so beautiful. We went there with a tour (we got the tour from getyourguide website and we left the tour with pleasant memories) the weather unfortunately wasn't sunny but even with this kind of weather, the view was amazing.
