The at the southern entry of the Chio Valley sits on a 364-meter-high hill, this well-preserved medieval fortification in the province of Arezzo, has massive 263-meter walled enclosure, complete with battlements and towers, and a prominent keep, a 30-meter square tower. Named after the Guasconi family, who owned it in the 11th century, the castle’s on the road between Arezzo and Cortona made it a point of conflict between Arezzo and Florence. After the defeat at the Battle of Campaldino in 1289, it became a Florentine fortress. Its current form, with towers and walls from the 13th century, exemplifies Tuscan architecture. No words need to describe how beautiful this is absolutely astonishing !!! We were the only ones there, the view is definitely priceless! Challenging drive to the and it was closed. Didn't appear to have been open recently. View is nice but is privately ovned so you can only brows its secrets few times a year. Sadly I didn't have this opportunity. Although it was closed I took a stroll around the the view is awesome :) So beautiful and peaceful place to be in the real Tuscany. Archeological tour every second Sunday at 10:30. Otherwise, the is private and not publicly accessible.
